So here I am in Roatan, an island just off the coast of Honduras set in the Caribean ocean. I didnt know what to expect from Roatan so was pleasantly surprised as it is such a great place. This beautiful island hosting great beaches with clear, blue waters and best of all great little pubs and restaurants. And the fact that the island was full of military men in uniforms on their holidays made it all the better.
The island has a real hippy feel about it, as its so laid back and chilled out here, so I spent the 3 night here just relaxing and chilling out, as well as a little bit of partying thrown in.
Oh yer, I got to fullfill one of my dreams, and no ladies it had nothing to do with military men, I got to swim with dolphines. An awesome experience!!!
Myself and 2 others from the group arrived at the beautiful resort, made up of cabins lining the shroefront, and was taken via a boat to the dolphine sanctuary. Being an animal lover I was dubious about the notion of containing dolphines in a small area for the benefit of tourists, but on arrival my doubts were expelled. It was evident that the 25 dolphines (one of which was a baby dolphine born only 2 days prio-so cute!) were well looked after, happy and care free. The santuary is a large area of the sea sectioned off to offer a safe place in which the dolphines can be feed and breed in safety. And it is evident from their playfullness that they are happy.
After being introduced to the main male dolphine, Billy, the trainer educated us on dolphines in general, and then had Billy perform a few tricks for us. We then donned our snorkel gear and swam with the dolphines for about an hour. It was so awesome, such an amazing experience. We swam alongside the dolphines as they played, fought and even mated, which was kind of strange but an awesome experience as you almost felt like one of them, a real glimpse into the lives of dolphines-AMAZING. One of the best days even, im still smiling now. A definate MUST DO!!!!
So a definate thumbs up for Roatan!
