Shaking The Tree 2005
Dear All
I said good by to steamy chaotic Hong Kong on Saturday and flew 3 hours and
1500 miles south to Singapore.
What a difference - ordered wide streets - and as we are virtually on the
equator it is hotter 33' with really bright sunny skies, (Even though it was
pouring with rain when I landed.) Every one is soooo polite !
The backpack has still not had to go on ones back as the Airport shuttle
dropped me from the airport to the hotel, door to door for a whole two
pounds.
The hotel is amazing - and my bag was taken to the room by the suited and
booted bell boy! Well I told you it was Hilton Backpacking.....
As it was pouring with rain and night time I opted for the veggie option on
the hotel menu - Mutter Paneer and rice. Those of you who have watched me
scoff at an Indian Restaurant know this is my signature dish, and after the
near "meat misses" in Hong Kong it went down a storm.
Yesterday was spent near the pool, there is a 2 day public holiday here - so
Singapore is heaving with people looking to fill one of their few days off.
The evening obviously was spent in a bar watching Kimi storm home in the
Monaco GP...... Go Kimi Go !
Today is a sight seeing day, I started at Raffles and I am booked on the
14:30 Duck Tour around the city. This is like the London amphibious tour and
should be good for a giggle and to get my bearings. I could not go into
Raffles and experience a cocktail as the only shoes I have are sandals and
these are strictly prohibited.
I hope to go to the zoo, Sentosa (an Island just off Singapore Island that
is one giant theme park but does have the PINK, yes I said PINK dolphins
native to the region), I am planning a trip to little India tonight for more
dhal and veggie delights.
If I lived in Singapore ....
I would be very poor as I would shop till I dropped in the mall upon mall
that is built on every available piece of land. Prada Gucci Top Shop Dotty P
they are all here !
I would be very large due to the amount of food I consumed whilst in the
malls, as restaurants, really good restaurants seem to be every where. Even
the Hawker stalls are licensed and for all you carnivores out there how
about chilli crab, or live lobster for $10 - just over 3 pounds.
I would be very pale as I would have to steer clear of the blistering sun
and stay in the air-conditioned metropolis of malls.
I would be tempted to cross the road where I should not or even worse chew
gum in public ! If there is anything that might be considered anti social
Singapore has a law against it. Why does this bring out my rebellious
streak?
Well I am off now to join the queue of under five's lined up for the duck
tour.
Love

PS
Howard - still not had to use the survival pack even the wine bottles are
screw tops. But HI FIVE are here in Singapore complete with Lycra outfits -
if you were here I would have booked you a ticket !
