Lynds' Travels
Hi all,
Well my stay in KL was fantastic. I was in this lovely hostel run by a group of really nice and friendly people. Breakfast was included in the price of your stay, there was aircon in the bedrooms, a massive TV with loads of up to date DVDs ( I watched Crash, isn't it good!) comfy sofas, including Thai trinagular mattresses and a powershower. All for a reasonable price too.
During my time there I went on/visited the Petronas Building; which is the tall lit buildings in the postcard; the KL Tower, which is where the picture is taken from - it's the fourth larget single tower in the world don't you know!; the shopping malls; the monorail; Lakegardens, a massive park with a lake in it; China Town and Little India.
I loved the city, though I found it really hard to navigate and got lost on several occassions, which was rather bad on one night, as I walked round for about an hour needing the toilet!
The city's food options are very diverse, and my diet there consisted of Chinese (this was a bit of a disaster. I got it from a street stall - hawker - and it seems they put chicken in instead of egg!), Indian (Me and some others from the hostel went to a restaurant where you could eat as much as you want and pay what you think appropriate after and the food was scrummy) and Spanish Tapas, this was a bit of an expensive indulgence, but it was worth it!
It's a really clean city, I felt really safe and I enjoyed my stay greatly, so much so that I stayed an extra night than planned. Because I decided to do this at the last minute my bed had been given to someone else, but the people let me stay a little room dwnstairs, where they keep their clothes for next to nothing. I'm glad I did too, as my last night was fantastic.
The people who ran the hostel were throwing a party for their friends who had just got married and we were all invited to it and got fed for free - though the westerners had to drink for the whole party, as being a predominately Muslim country they don't consume alcohol. No trouble there then.
Most of the people that came to the wedding party were gay men and friend's of the brides, who seemed to be a little wild in her younger years - they did a Suzy through the ages sketch! The night was therefore about strutting your stuff as much as possible and out performing each other be it through dance, song or dramatics. The 'best friend's' speech involved the line, "Well, best wishes Suzy; Suzy with the real t*** and real vagina..." It was a very bizarre night, not quite what I had expected a Malaysian Weddign Party to be like, but lots of fun.
The day after was mainly spent nursing my head, watching DVDs and eating left over cake, very satisfying! Then in the evening Sophie - the owner - gave me a lift to the train station to catch a night train to Singapore.
Miss you all.
