The bus from Manuel Antonio went with no worries at all. Had to pay the $26 departure tax (pretty steep) and checked in. Had a bit of a hiccup with my passports when checking in- to enter the USA I have an esta number for my visa waiver which I've already used for entering LAX and Seattle. The only problem was that I had entered costa rica on my UK passport- which ended up being ok, just confusing for the staff and I had completely forgotten about the esta thing for my two passports.
I hadn't been in an airport for 3.5 weeks so it was okay- except for the horrendously expensive food prices!! More than anywhere I think! Enjoyed a couple of iced mochas and a caesar salad..mm.. There were three different big groups of Americans around the place and as soon as I saw what was written on all their shirts I knew they were religious freaks!!! I overhead one guy speaking to a group "now I hope this trip has inspired you all to and blah blah missionary blah blah god blah blah".. Preaching to the world..
The flight was okay. Made the transfer to Miami airport from Fort Lauderdale which took over an hour on the train but was relatively easy. Except the bus to transfer from the train to the airport didn't come after about 40 mins of waiting. Some lady offered a ride because she was going to pick up her kids, there were three girls/ladies in the car who seemed genuine and the airport was just down the road so I got in- i wasn't alone and they weren't guys so generally had a bit more trust! This Argentinian girl lourdes was a bit cautious but it was fine in the end for a 5 minute ride! We spent about half an hour when we got there deciding what to do for the night- we wanted to go to a 24 hr walmart or shopping centre that we had heard about but mixed opinions about what was open and transport on a Sunday night is limited- the taxis were really expensive so we ended up just getting some food and walking around the airport. I was so glad I had found a buddy to stay in the airport with me because it was not sleep friendly at all like other airports!! With cold polished floors or retardedly shaped skinny lounge things! set up camp in the corner at the end of the airport and it was pretty funny - Lourdes was great company! I got up at about 5:00 to check into my flight and said goodbye. Had to fly to bogota and have a 3.5 hour stopover which was kinda retarded. Finally got to Lima with a quick customs and baggage claim, the hostel guy was there with my name so paid him and arrived at the hostel with bianca already there. We went out for dinner and just had a drink!
