Fiji, 20th Feb 2009

Bula! ('hola' in Fiji)

There we are - our first blog- and straight outta Fiji! Well let me start of by telling you that it aint easy and the typical holiday-problems already have begun.....Yes, I am sorry to say but honoustly it can be pretty tough, I mean how about having sand all over, in your shirt, shorts and even sheets, having a sunburn already after a day and needing mosquito repellent on you for those warm evenings.. it aint easy I know.. I am sure you sympathize with us :0. Well luckily we also had time in between to enjoy the good side of Fiji, perhaps better to let the pictures speak for itself.

Now we are at already our last day in our Fiji beachresort, which we leave tomorrow for the adventure and scenery of New Zealand. Luckily a bit of a shorter flight, cause that really was something else.. I already didnt quite understand when we left how we could take off in Barcelona on the 16th and arrive only the 18th in Fiji... well, the reason was simple; we flew for a full 24 hours, in a total of 35 hours travel time and on top of that we switched from -9 hours, in LA, onto +11 now in Fiji! So basically in that one flight we actually skipped 20 hours, which meant our February 17th was only 4 hours long! Pretty bizarre.

I guess only like that you realize that we are literally at the other side of the world, 180^! As example of it, in our last flight Zayde ordered a Bloody Mary just before we were going to have breakfast thinking it was evening.. Hey why not! Well, it took us a day, under the palmtree and in the swimmingpool and the superwarm (bathtub-like) ocean, to acclimatise a bit, but we managed ;0.

For the rest was Fiji very nice; very friendly non-hassling people, we got welcome songs from the airport (which later we realized was for the national rugby-team whom were on our flight!) until warm welcome in one of the Fiji-islands where we took a boattrip to further relax, snorkel, I went deepsea-fishing and we saw amazing deserted Islands (where Blue Lagoon, Cast Away etc. was taped!). I also found out that sunblock is not that bad as mosquito-repellent... after I mistakenly mixed both up ;0. Haha.

Well, anyway I think we did okay to slowly roll into the holiday-mood now... Kiwi-landia here we come!
