Bangkok round 2......wow, I'm not sure I'm ready to talk about this but I will give it a go.
Chapter 1: Cai's farewell
The day had come.... The one and only Cai Ferguson was returning home after 371 days of travelling. Miss you already brother. We felt that the departing celebrations had to be monumental......they were. Highlights include....... Tuk tuk racing, ping pong shows, being pulled over by the police, Pavon falling out of a moving tuk tuk in which there were 6 of us hanging off, Pavon falling off the podium in the club...twice!, Dale horse feeding, befriending Tiger, the performing musician and the final crescendo......a serious showdown with the hostel lady leading to our swift departure. All in all a night to remember..... I wish I could anyway.
Chapter 2: The shootout
After our departure from hostel #1 we stood, hanging, on khoasan road and felt the hotel with the swimming pool was the answer....it was, it looked right out over the road, had a rooftop pool with a swim up bar and air-con. A luxury far removed from my $1 a night mattress in Cambodia so Not bad for 10 schnitzels a day. The pool consumed the majority of my day as I was not feeling entirely alive, Cai left for his flight complete with souvenirs such as nun-chuks, throwing stars and mafia mr men t-shirts.
The team felt depleted at this point so we had to drown our sorrows and drink to a true hero. The pre-drinking was done in-pool, the night out epic and the journey home involved serious prostitute attention, I had to run away from another one. Nothing too out of the ordinary. It was the post night out drinking on our balcony when we witnessed it, a Thai man fleeing another wielding a pistol, he opened fire not stopping to think about witnesses, emptying a clip. Thankfully he missed and the police arrived to find the shooter sitting at a food stall reloading his gun....you would assume the next part of the story is pretty straight forward......you would be wrong. The policemen hugged the gunman and bowed to him, then left...what the horse?!?
We felt at this juncture it may be time to leave Bangkok so me and Daley headed south to Koh Tao, Pavon headed north but will reunite with us shortly. We visited Tiger Temple on route, a tiger sanctuary where you can go and stroke tigers, it was awesome to see them play fighting and stuff but the fact they had more narcotics in them than Amy Winehouse took the shine off it a little bit. Still very impressive though, awesome creatures!
My first day on Koh Tao was eventful and I'm afraid to say a s*** one. We hired scooters and explored the island which was wicked, it's an amazing place. It was when I took the scooter back and got stung 100 nuggets to fix some very minor scratches (I may have fallen off a little bit) that the day started going down hill, it was losing my camera that night that was the icing on the cake! I've lost some amazing photos, all of Cambodia and about half of Vietnam will remain in my memories only. Very upsetting.
It's hard to stay angry here though, I have divided my time since the first day between the beach, swimming pool, the bar (standard) and the boat that took me diving so in the grand scheme of things I don't feel I can complain for too long!
Diving was awesome, I'd forgotten how much fun it was! Saw some wicked fish and coral. The highlight being a gigantic shoal of barracudas, literally hundreds of them!
The current dream team includes Drewe, a female from Bournmouth and Thijs a mad Dutch loon, who are providing an abundance of entertainment and are definitely assets.
Fire Poi is my new favourite thing in the world (fire dancing with flaming sticks and balls on chains) they have it in all the bars here and I get transfixed by the Burmese meth-heads wielding the fire for hours! It's silly good, the fat one can actually throw one a good thirty foot in the air and catch it with his foot and still keep them spinning, unbelievable tekkers!
The night time shenanigans have continued in full force you may be pleased to here. Some highlights....erm....A large scale mustard fight in the supermarket at 4 in the morning springs to mind, I took a fire poi to the nads at one point, pretty painful but highly amusing. I may or may not have fallen asleep on a speaker somehow, The front flip was brought out of the bag again for another dance off victory as well.
I have however acquired a war wound, a little piece of advise; don't kick a speed bump really hard when you're not wearing shoes! The result, I had to pay a Thai woman to pull off my toe nail, something I would never wish on anyone, it does however mean that I am embarking on this evenings adventures with a condom on my toe to protect the bandage, something that is amusing me no end.
I am getting into island life in a big way though. Many people I have met have came and just stayed and I can see why. If I had the money and the time I would be getting qualified as a dive master as we speak!
Still going as strong as ever despite my day of issues. Hope the world is treating you well!
