Kuala Lumpur
After the worst train journey in my life we arrived in Kuala lumpur with about 2 hours sleep between us. The lights were left on all night, the aircon was blasting freezing us all and the seats turned out to be bloody uncomfortable. Anyway, we went for a coffee to wake up a bit and then searched for the monorail that would take us to our hostel. This took about 30 mins to do as our brains were not working and we ended up walking to the next station because we didnt see the monorail that was right next to us to begin with but the exercise was good ha!
We arrived at the station where our hostel was near and jumped off. We again stood around trying to figure out where we were but gave in a just got a cab. the bleeding cabbie conned us good and proper taking us this long route round and it wasnt untill we left our hostel later and walked 30 seconds up the road we realised that we were right next to the hostel to begin with grrrr, ah well ya live and learn.
We headed straight to the Petronas Towers to get the free ride up to the sky bridge for early customers. When we arrived it was a pretty impressive site, the towers looked really cool with the sun coming down inbetween them. We went and got our free tickets and had to wait an hour before our turn which gave us time to have another coffee and for the girls to do some shopping in the shopping mall beneath, yes...beneath the petronas towers. Our time came and we got in the queue, we had to watch some wierd film about the towers and the company petronas (an oil company) but it was in 3D and we got given 3D goggles haha, funny ol stuff ;) We then got in the lift and shot up pretty damn quick to the sky bridge which was on the 42nd floor, i was pretty gutted that this was as high as we were allowed as we were only half way up :( but at least it was high enough to see over the whole of Kuala Lumpur and we got some good pics and i could check it off the list!
Kuala Lumpur to me was just one huge shopping mall, there were, and im not joking about 10 malls all withing 10 mins walk of each other, it was madness. the girls loved it and couldnt wait to get shopping whereas I on the other hand just headed straight to the electronics mall to check out the laptops as id be waiting to get to malaysia to see if i could pick myself up a cheapy netbook. I searched around and couldnt believe the prices i was seeing, they were a good few hundred pounds yes £££ more than those in london! i managed to haggle the price down but it was still way to expensive and still cheaper to buy one in london so i gave up and went and had a milkshake instead thus saving me a good bit of cash also.
That evening we met up with an old friend of mine Clive who used to live up the road back in mill hill and now works out in Malaysia. the other girls arrived, gem, jen and carrie and Clive invited us round to his appartment for a few drinks before showing us a cool place to eat and the night life. Was pretty impressed at his place as we could see the skylive of kuala lumpur from the roof of his appartment. he then took us out to a road where there were loads of street vendors, we grabbed some food which was ral nice and cheap authentic malay food and then headed out to the night life. It was a pretty cool place but a little quiet as it was nearing chinese new year but we managed to find a lively bar and the management knew Clive and treated us well, the pics will show youthis ;)
The next day were were leaving, it was just a fly by visit to Kuala Lumpur but we had good fun and i saw what i wanted to see of the place. there is a lot more to do but we've done a lot of things available when we were up in thailand so the urge to do everything wasnt as much.
We booked a bus in the morning for Melacka, the bus station was absolutely mental, thousands of people all over the place with market stalls and cafes all inthe same place, was a bit hectic but i still managed to eat a chicken curry for breakfast! We got on the bus which was pretty nice actually and set off for Melacka.
