Relaxing on an island again!
Ometepe is an island created in the middle of the biggest lake in central America by two volcanoes, Concepcion and Maderas. Somewhat alarmingly, one just erupted last week and covered the island in black ash. But we're not worried.
We are relaxing in a nice hostel by the shore of the lake. Strangely there are lots of English people here. We are proud to say that we have so far participated in none of the folloing activities that are offered in the local area:
1. hiking to crater lake in volcano Maderas
2. hiking to spectacular waterfall
3. riding bicycle around island
4. riding horses around villages in hills
5. kayaking to nearby island inhabited by only monkeys
6. hiking 8 hours up volcano conception
7. participating in permaculture type activities at local organic farms
However me and damian are pleased to report that we have instead concentrated on sampling the local rum (Flor de Cana) and Damian has been helping at a local school to teach English through the medium of song. (Diez botellas verdes, anyone?)
Its a lovely island, very friendly and chilled out... we're just much better at sitting in hammocks supping rum and talking crap than we are at doing ambitious outdoor pursuits in this climate!
