Roman water pipe
As usual, the Romans installed all mod. cons when they arrived in Palmyra in the first century BC - hot, cold and tepid running water, for instance. The city was already a flourishing trading centre and important caravan station. For a short time it was even called Hadriana, after Emperor Hadrian's visit in 126 AD.
