Nassereither Schellerlaufen takes place every 3 years between Epiphany ("3 Kings' Day") on Jan 6 and Ash Wednesday. In other words, it's the local way of celebrating carnival or "Fasnacht". The next Schellerlaufen will be on Saturday Feb 2, 2013. This old tradition has always involved men as the actors and women as support staff, so to speak. No changes, even today. Perhaps the legend about a woman who dared to don a mask and was hurled down the village well by the men is still believed...Nonetheless, Nassereith is one of the few villages to preserve such an old tradition, one which unites its residents, enabling them and the large number of spectators from far and wide to have an enormous amount of fun together and keep a tradition dating at least back to the beginning of the 18thC alive.
