Hey everybody. Time for your last update before I return home!
So i last left you in new Zealand. I left you in taupo i think after a massive long hike called the tongerrero crossing! Amazing views, where lord of the rings was filmed and it was just beautiful scenery!! Very very windy at the top of the mountain (mount doom) but a beautiful sunny day without a cloud in the sky so we were really lucky! I really enjoyed my time in taupo it was a lovely little town. After 2 nights here i moved onto the smelly rotorua, well known for its geysers and sulphur baths, it was needless to say very stinky. I didn’t particularly like the town of rotorua much so during my 3 days here i decided to hire a car with a lovely irish couple and we drove to waitomo to see the caves. What a fabulous day we had!! Firstly on the way we stopped off at agroadventures as i had won some vouchers for some free activities here. I did the swoop whish cas like a giant swing with a 40m freefall off a krane, while lying in a hangglider type sleeping bag!! Very scary stuff!! But all in a normal days life here in new Zealand!! Ha ha. I also did this really cool freefall experience where they pump air out of a big fan in the florr and you jump over it and fly and spin around on the air!! That was totoally cool. I loved it including the funny faces it made me pull!! Ha ha. After this adrenaline morning we spent the next 5 hours in a cave. We did it with a company called rap, raft and rock. They were amazing. We absailed down into the cave, went on the tubes and climbed some rocks, walked through water saw the amazing glow worms lighting up the sky. We had to squeeze through the tiniest holes which i didn’t think i would like, but i actually loved it!!! Then we had to climb a massive rock face to get out of the cave!! Brilliant experience. Shattered at the end of this day tho”!! so much adrenaline for one day!!! While staying in rotorua i also took part in a mauri evening, where i learnt loads about the native culture of new Zealand. Amazing stuff!! Lol.
After rotorua i got on the bus to mount monganui which was a lovely seaside town, unfortualtely it rained the whole time i was here so i didn’t get to see it at its best but it still looked beautiful. Naturally cause it was raining i found a gym and spent the afternoon working up a sweat!!! U know me!!
Then from here the next stop was Auckland. Didn’t really like this city much, nothing too special here so i decided to get out of here after only 1 night and head north to the bay of islands or pahia. I spent 3 nights here, really starting to wind down at th end of my trip. Was a lovely place really chilled out, beach and finally some much deserved sunshine!! So naturally i spent the day on the beach!! Also went parasailing here on the worlds windiest day!!! But it was a free trip as we won it coming second in a pub quiz the night before. None of the other girls were interested in being suspended 1200ft above the water for 12 minutes, so guess who volunteered!!! Yey!! Im really starting to like this being high up feeling, i think my fear of heights may finally be fading!!
While in the bay of islands i went up to the most northly tip of new Zealand called cape reinga this was a fun and long day out. Saw the two oceans clashing together where they join at the top, saw a world famous lighthouse and some pretty amazing scenery but best of all we went sandboarding down the giant sand dunes. Soooo much fun basically it is like body boarding but down giant sand slopes!! I loved coming down but the climb up the slope was very hard work!!! Hee hee. We also drove along 90 mile beach on the bus. Then back to Auckland for 1 night and time to say goodbye to this beautiful country!!
The next day i arrive in Fiji!! Back to some sunshine – or so i thought!! Well heat at least. Turned out to be raining all day, but it is nice to be back in humidity where you are not cold ever and don’t mind a bit of rain!! I spent one night in nadi and had a lovely stirfry dinner with some peope i met at the hostel. Then bright and early the next morning it was time to catch the bus and ferry out to the Fijian islands. Did a 7 night package and then liked the last island sooo much i decided to stay here for an extra 2 nights before my flight home!! The islands i visited were coral view, koroview, wailailey and southsea island. All are lovely islands, weather wasn’t great for any of my time in Fiji think totoal i had about 2 full days of sunshine the rest were cloudy and overcast but at least still hot so could sit in it. Beaches are beautiful, food is limited and at times it felt like we were bein starved on fat camp!! Ha ha. Harldy had any sleep on these islands for fear of mosquittos and dreaded bed bugs, but i did manage to survive my time without getting the latter!! Yey. The islands are sooo basic many don’t have electricity until sun down and the shower is merely a tap on the wall in a tin hut about a 5 minute walk from the dorm. Sometimes with only 1 shower for 32 people!! And obviously its cold water!! But all part of the experience!! Great for a short time but i have to say i am definitely craving some home comforts now. I never knew how sand gets everywhere! I jhavnt worn shoes for 4 days though so am feeling again a bit like im back in my favourite place – Thailand. While in Fiji i made some awesome friends including 2 girls from California who were a great laugh. We did the whole package thing together so really got the know each other by the end!
While in Fiji i sunbathed, read books, played cards, listened to music, wnet kayaking, went snorkelling including snorkelling with sharks which was fab!! Saw white tipped reef sharks just swimming around underneath me! About 3 – 4 feet long. The guides would feed them fish infront of us!! Sooo amazing! I climbed a few mountains to get beautiful views and just generally had a relaxing time preparing my self for going back to work in a few weeks. I also visited a Fijian village and saw a church spoke to the locals and even visited a school, which was an amazing experience. The children just speak English so fluently no matter their age and all the posters etc on the walls of their classrooms are all in English too!! The kids were so sweet!! Loved all the shell markets too where the ladies would sell lovely bracelets and necklaces made out of shells and pearls found on the beaches!
The island i have spent the past 3 days on is amazing its tiny, it only takes 2 minutes to walk the whole way around the outside! The food here has been brilliant and there have been lots of daytime activities including a submarine trip and bracelet weaving on the beach!! I also did and awesome day sailing boat trip out of here on board the seapray boat, which was amazing fun and unlimited food and drinks all day!! What fun!! During this trip i had to save a japenese boy who was drowning in the sea. Interesting experience, tell u more about that another time.
From here i flew onto LA to begin living a life of luxury again after all this skimping and saving and living in hostels etc i decided to treat my self and splash out on my last stop, meeting my friend from uni - karl, stayin in hotels, catching taxis, eating in nice restaurants and also hiring a convertable red mustang which we managed to over 700 miles in 4 days in!! Not bad!! Lol. Was great cruising along with the top down and music blaring. I wanna buy a convertible now! we spent one night in santa monica which was a lovely place, we had a picnic on the beach and watched the sunset which was really nice. We went for breakfast in a typical American diner where i had a bagel and cream cheese and a yummy strawberry milkshake! Next day we got up early and had really long drive to las vegas – party city!!! It too like 7 hours of driving but it was fine cause we had the top down the whole way!! Lol. Had brilliant time in vegas drinking, gambling, watching shows and spending lots of money!! After vegas we spent the next 2 days in san diego!! We went out for a lovely Mexican meal and had margaretas and the restaurant served 150 varietiies of tequila so it ws defo only fair that we tried some of them!! I spent my final day in san diego at the beach and surfing!! So much fun. Ready for a sleep now though after, eating, drinking and partying way too much!!! Lol.
