Lou's Travels
Hi there everyone!
I've finally got round to updating my message board, we have done so much since i last wrote so here goes!
we arrived in darwin early last sunday,it was 27 degrees at 6.30am(traveled for 24 hrs on 3 planes) which was a big shock! Darwin was quite a nice town, it was quite quiet because its the wet season, so not loads going on!but we had a good time.we both slept for while when we got there, we then went out and found a cool bar called the Vic, it had a cool band and was a good laugh we then ended up goin to a club which was a bit hard core for us so we left at about 3.30am! becky didn't feel to good on the next day(she it fit and healty now thou!)so i went exploring and went as far as the first cafe and sat and had some lunch and just people watched which was fun, really friendly people. i then went to a car hire place and arranged a little car for us for the day after! we had a quiet night ready for our big drive to litchefield park the next day! we set off about 10.30 and it took us about an hour to find the highway, which was fun, once we got on the 'Stuart highway'it took about an hour to the park, we went to a couple of water falls with plunge pools it was great! i really enjoyed driving although we did hit a storm at one point but it passed! we had a great day but were both looking forward to moving onto alice springs!
The flight was very bumpy here, loadsa turbulance, quite scarey but we arrived safely, the drive from the airport was great it is crazy cause there is nothing around and alice springs is in the middle of no where, i saw a Kangeroo on the golf course as we drove passed..he he! We got to hostel and were really surprised, it was a lot nicer than darwin and much more people.the first day we had a wander round and sorted some things out (boring stuff i wont bore you with) we then booked our 2 day tour for the following day! in the evening we went for a couple of drinks and got roped into a pub quiz by who we thought was the 'quiz master'' only to find out he from one of the teams(all his family were there and we kinda introduded on there meal) they were quite nice but a bit to serious about it all so we made our excuses and left!!!
we woke up the next day at 5.00am (pick up at 5.45am) i went for a shower which was outside and had an interesting experience with a massive beige looking beatle, crawling up my leg!i was so scared and it was the quickest shower i have had, i didn't know i could move that fast!
anyway, we got picked up by 'emu run tours' two old blokes called 'tic and jack'they were great, real aussie blokes! it takes about 6 hours to get to ayres rock from alice so we both fell asleep on the coach (after we had our breakfast) we stopped half way at a motel bar place called Mt. Ebonizer (this is where we were staying on the way back)as we drove into the outback there were some animals, some wild horses ran out in front of the coach(you can see loads of road kill too)our first stop was the Olgas this was pretty impressive, loads of big rocks in middle of no where we went for a walk around there (before we left someone told us to get a fly net for our heads, because there is a lot of flys in alice we thought we better do this, so we donned our head nets, got some great photos of me and becky)
we then went onto to the cultural centres then onto Ayres rock, it was amazing to see as we drove upto it, it looks just like all the pictures you see, we went for a walk around it and it is full of caves and aboriginal art work, it was so amazing to be able to touch it! after a full day, we drove to the sunset viewing place and watched the sunset as we had a champagne BBQ. (my favourite bit!) we were then taken back to the motel at about 10ish, where the group left as there was only us two doing the two days! we decided to brave the bar, looking out for snakes and spiders with our torch on the way round! we walked in and it was full of men (cowboy hats and boots) it was as if everyting stopped, we ordred a beer and they all carried on drinking! nice people in the end and we had a bit of a chat then went back to our room(which waas real treat after being in doorms)
the next morning after breakfast we met up with the tour guide for the second day and found out there was only one other girl (four of us including the guide). we headed to the Kings canyon (bit like grand canyon) not many people know about it,it took about 3 hours to get there, so we all slept, again! when we got there we could choose to climb it or walk the creek, it wasnt too hot (about 30 degrees!!!!) so we decided to climb it, the first bit is worse, its called heart attck hill and when you get to the top you know why! it was well worth it, it was the most beautiful place i had seen in a long time, much better than ayres rock, the views took your breath away, and i felt really energetic (which is not like me)right at the top about 200 metres, we started to hear tunder, and a storm was coming, we were all dying for the rain and when it came, it was so heavy it was brilliant, there was no one around just us four, we walked down to the garden of eden in the middle and saw the beggining of a water fall we all looked up and saw all this water just start flowing down, something that has not happended in the dessert for years, the tour guide was so excited and said we were very lucky, it was brill!
after luch we headed back to the halfway motel and got picked up by the boss of the comapny cause there were no more coaches that day, we had a 3 hour drive back with him in his 4X4 along the highway, going thru floods and dodging the kangeroos and cattle!
when we got back there was big group still up at the hostel so we ended up chating with them.
So now your upto date, this morning we visted a kangeroo rescue place and held baby joey's, they were so cute mine fell asleep, we got some good pics!
