Day 19 - Safari time!!
A brief blog entry this time! We are now 3 days in to our overland tour which is taking us from Nairobi to Livingstone. We are in a large group of 28 at the moment, a real mix of ages and people, mainly aussies, kiwis and brits but also a few europeans. Everyone seems very friendly and good fun and we are really enjoying it so far!
We have just returned from the Masai Mara where we got our first safari experience. It was a really long drive to get there (about 6hrs) and then we arrived at a luxury campsite - proper beds in the tents and hot showers at the back of the tent! We had 3 game drives in the park and saw pretty much every african animal imaginable, including some lion cubs which were so sweet! It was really hard to resist going to stroke them as they were so chilled out and made little miaow sounds!
On the way back to our next campsite today we broke down in the minibus, which was an interesting experience in the middle of nowhere. We were towed for approx 10 miles until we found a masai mechanic, who eventually fixed it by tying a broken pipe together with a plastic bag! Luckily we made it back with no further problems. We're now at a campsite (proper camping this time - no beds!) about to have a BBQ before heading off in the big truck tomorrow, to Arusha in Tanzania. We will get to do more safari time in the Ngorogoro crater and then head off to Zanzibar for some island time!
We'll try and upload some more photos soon, thanks for all the messages!
Lots of love, louise and john xxxxx
