Hello Everyone :) Lou here - Thought I'd better get round to doing some hard work and write an entry for the blog!
Well, we're in Melbourne now after an amazing time in Sydney. Sydney was fantastic but SO expensive and everything we wanted to do seemed to cost a lot of money! It also rained a lot!!? What's that about!? - I thought we were in for four months of brilliant sunshine!!!! But met some ace people and are now travelling like proper backpackers on recommendations of places to visit.
Erm, don't know much about Melbourne yet, but from the outset it feels like a much more chilled, off the beaten track, hippyish place. We're staying in St Kilda which is five minutes walk from the beach. The St Kilda festival starts at the weekend and goes on for the week, so we may end up staying a bit longer before heading off into the outback/hiring a car?! Melbourne looks much more how I expected Australia to look with wide avenues and random styles of buildings and it's now crept up to 30 degrees. There's a great tram service and eveything is really accessible. Oh that's one thing i forgot to mention - Australia has the most amazing fresh fruit "fast food" stalls! There are also recycling points everywhere and the whole place just feels healthy. Think we could do with a couple of these back in the UK!
Erm, not sure what else to write about Melbourne as we havent explored yet, but it looks like a very laid-back/arty place so I think we'll like it. There's also an old fairground with a wooden rollercoaster which will be on the to-do list! Oh, and of course the Neighbours tour and a ride along the Great Coastal Road.
So to sum up - Loved China, want to spend more time exploring, Australia is great BUT vvvv expensive, a bit too touristy for my liking and the lack of a language barrier makes it feel a bit too close to home and like we're cheating! I'm sure I'll take this all back when we're trying to sort out transport across India! :P
Right, better go and have an explore and put another shrimp on the barbie!
