Lorraine and Jay on The Big Trip
Hi all,
Well our bus journey to Mar del Plata was fine, even nicer food than the last time, so we were delighted with ourselves, we got champagne at bedtime and all.
We arrived in at 11am and basically hated the place on sight though!! It´s an Argentinian beach resort, and apparently the hot place to go for ppl from Buenos Aires, God knows why. We were wrecked tired and it was lashing rain, which probably didn´t help. Our room at the hostel felt like someone had died in it and was right at the front door, and the staff in the cafe we went to for lunch completely ignored us, hmmmmm.
We got a few hours sleep and walked into the centre of town via the beach. It was jam packed, you could hardly see the sand. The town centre was like the crappy end of Oxford St (for the Londoners) and like Talbot St (for the Dubs), yuck. We found a nice parilla (steakhouse) and cheered ourselves up with a fab meal, full on steak and sides, bottle of wine and desserts, for 20 quid, will miss that about Argentina!
The door buzzer went all night, so we gave up at 7am and packed up in superquick time and got ourselves to the bus station and onto a bus to Villa Gessell, another beach town that got good reviews in our guidebook. Bus only took an hour and half (towards BA), but it´s completely different, much more laidback and a lot smaller.
We didn´t have any accomo sorted, but the tourist office at the bus station recommended a hostel, so we rocked up there and they sorted a room for us. We have a four bed dorm to ourselves, and a bathroom, score! Super cheap too and ten mins from the beach, so hopefully we´ll have spare cash and tans for Buenos Aires! Mar del Plata was the first place we haven´t liked, so we´ve been really lucky, and it was like an adventure coming up here then.
We´ll probably stay here three days or so and then get a bus to BA, so so so excited about getting there!
Net connection seems good here, so we´ll get our Bariloche pics up asap (and the one we took in Mar Del, ha ha!).
Lots of love to everyone....
