Delhi is wicked and def on the 'Places to return to' list! Shopped in the many billions of bazaars, got really excited about a burger...which had questionable meat content, swore at touts(sometimes it's the only way) and celebrated Danny's birthday in TGI Fridays(his choice not ours!) drinking extortionate cocktails! He seemed to have a good time though! Headed to Old Delhi the following day....now that is how I expected Delhi to be! Bazaars flowing into one another in no particular way, cows and horses stables lining the streets, tuk tuks driving in all directions and smells you can't possibly imagine! Visited the red mosque which is the biggest mosque in India and beautiful! Tried to take a picture ofamonkey....yes in the middle of the city....who kept hiding from me! I was in stitches!!! Went to the cinema in Delhi...had to be done...to see a bollywood film that was actually filmed in London! Oops! Great fun though...even though I had no idea what they were talking about! Go see Jhoom Barabar Jhoom!
Next stop the very hot 'Pink city' of Jaipur where we were greeted by musicians and had Bindis planted on our heids! Had the luxury of a plush hotel and we were treated to a puppet/music show....Polly and I being the only 2 brave enough to get up and dance! I have decieded that there is no point being shy....you only get one chance sometimes and you gotta take it....I'm trying to say YES more often! Visited the sun temple and Monkey palace after a very hotwalk around the pink city at 7am(it was about 35 degrees at that time in the morning) and then went seeking elephants and their mahouts(owners or lifelong partners really!) Tried to avoid the shops...but alas Polly was once more a bad influence! She did stop me buying a silk Sari but I had to get the bed spread!!!
The short journey to Agra was relaxing and we were all very excited at seeing the Taj! After a short stint in some air con Will,Polly,Louise and I headed to get our first glimpse of the magnificent Taj Mahal at sunset! We then got up before dawn to catch sunrise. After watching people bathing in the river behind the Taj we then headed inside and were blown away! Tis very strange to see such sights and actually remind yourself that you are standing there....right in front of them! Someone said recently that the best bit about travelling is the preparation and then the memories....I can see why! It is strangely normal to be sharing the streets with elephants and cows, standing in front of the Taj mahal, being surrounded by 8000m snowy peaks etc, etc....I don't think I'll truly appreciate a lot of these things until I look back at the photos in months to come! Anyway....after spending a few hours at the Taj I headed to bed for a while before preparing for my train trip back to Dehli.
