Arrived in Dali feeling like I could eat a small child...I didn't....Had a yummy lunch of....well I'm not very sure what! Spent the evening repacking and watching the only english tv channel I could find....it was a bit of a novelty! Ave was my saviour and appeared with take-away and then I hit the sack! Dali is another slightly twee tourist town....but has a nice feel to it! So after posting half my rucsac contents home(well to Oz) a few of us hired bikes and went to explore. Cycled to Lake erhai and got lost in the cobbled streets around the old town. Had a dinner of street skewers that night...don't ask what I ate as I really wouldn't have a clue! But it was yummy! I splurged and had apple pie and a rose beer(nice actually) in Jacks bar! I also learned one of my truck buddies had finished the new Harry Potter book and I was next in line! I was a recluse for the next 3 days as I switched btwen being lost in the scenery and lost with Harry Potter and his friends.....can't believe it's all over now though...that lady J K Rowling deserves a medal!
Now sitting in Mengla praying that we will be able to enter Laos tomorrow! We arrived a little later than planned on friday after a 6 hour delay due to a landslide....only to find our paperwork is not here!!! Spent the first night here in a hotel normally reserved for ladies of the night and their clientelle....not so nice...but a little nicer that having to put up my tent(now covered in red clay and mould and still wet) in the rain for the 5th night in a row. We have moved onto nicer digs since then though....phew! Off to the market tonight for food and then an early night. I hope not to be sitting here tomorrow passing time in an internet cafe.
Bring on Laos....land of lovely coffee and baguettes.....now what shall it be first..tuna mayo, egg, cheese.....oh maybe ham....I suppose I could alternate.....I could maybe even have 2 a day....mmm......
