HAPPY NEW YEAR UPDATE EMAIL FROM MARY
I write this a year on from the powder hills of Whistler, its now 'puking' there and we are craving the white stuff but the colourfull, bustling and crazy city of Bangkok is keeping us busy and taking that craving away. Along with the very friendly and smiley Thai people oh and not to mention the food and cheap knock off clothes - snow burrhhh not for me!?!
We spent Christmas with some lovely friends in Oregon USA where we ate well and drank copious mounts of red wine from their vineyard, oh and it snowed on xmas day! We then took an 18hour flight to Bangkok and spent New Years on the vibrant party island of Ko Pha-Ngan with our amazing friends Sanj, Lou, Nic and Mike who brought us some love from blightly. We partied, drank lots of Thai style buckets and chilled on the gorgeous beaches.
So South America in summary - Our time here exploring this vast and diverse continent has by far exceeded my expectations, from picture perfect Mountains in Patagonia, gorgeous Caribbean beaches of Colombia, historical Machu Picchu in Peru, the most amazing steak and wine you've tasted in Argentina, the mind blowing salt flats and jungle experiences in Bolivia, the dryest desert in the world in Chile, and the beautiful coastline of Brazil and not to mention the crazy city of Rio.
We managed to travel for 6 months relatively unscathed no kidnappings, no arrests, no scams, no robberies, our bags did go missing a few times but they always seemed to find their way back to us, only 1 trip to the hospital and just a handful of days spent on the toilet.
Were now in Bangkok and enjoying exploring this amazing city, we head up to northern Thailand tonight where we will make our way to into Laos and Cambodia, then back into Thailand for some more island fun and expand our diving skills we learnt in Australia (wow that feels like a long time ago).
From there we fly to India and have 3 weeks in Goa where James sister and friends will join us. We then have a weekend in Dubai to see some friends living on the palm island. After that were fly to Singapore to see a friend who has recently moved there. A few more weeks of exploing the Thai islands where the grand finale of our long journey will be in Phuket celebrating Elliott and Sue's wedding at the exclusive Chedi resort, proper backpacker stylee......well you have to go out with a bang!!!!!
So after 16 months of travels we fly home from Bangkok on My 1st in preparation for our own wedding!!!!! The future....... James has decided to become a student again and will be starting his Masters degree at the University of Sheffield in September, after we get married we will be heading to that there northern monkey town!!!
Well Enough from me, im sure you all have work to do! At least James has managed to hold that one off for another year.
Happy New Year everyone
Mary and James
