I have been so bad at updating this blog so I am going to try to make a real post today.
Today we went on the CAPA Stonehenge and Bath tour. It was a great time, despite the fact that Stonehenge was closed due to the snow. England apparently does not know how to deal with snow. We got around 2 inches in the city and EVERYONE freaked out. The countryside got more snow than the city but they still do not have any idea on how to deal with it. None of the roads were salted, very few of the roads were actually plowed, and they did nothing about the sidewalks. The sidewalks were just a giant ice slide. Nonetheless, the countryside was beautiful! The snow made everything appear as though it was straight out of a fairy tale. Everything looked as though it had come straight out of the Chronicles of Narnia and how I always imagined the endless winter appearing. It was unlike anything I had seen before to be honest.
Bath was unbelievable in the snow. It was as beautiful as I remember it being but it was just magnified in the snow. We saw all of the major sites like the Baths and the Royal Crescent and our little group got to have a great cultural experience. After we had viewed the baths (and took the water- shout-out to Holger!) we went for lunch. We kind of just wandered until we stumbled into this little hole-in-the-wall pub. It was called something like the Volunteers pub (see the pictures!). We had the best food there and we had some great interactions with the locals. It was just what we were all expecting. The people were so nice and amiable and had no problem just coming over and talking about anything and everything. It was just what I wanted to do while I was here and I am glad that I got to have this experience now. I hope that it the first of multiple, especially since I have my internship. In all, it was a GREAT day!
Speaking of internship, I think that I am going to have a great experience there. The people are very nice and I know that I will be able to learn a ton. Another plus is that I get to interact with people every day from all walks of life. Not only at the internship with the massive phone banking that I have been doing but in my commute each day. It's going to be great.
Enough writing for now (and more than I have done so far). Tomorrow we are off to Oxford for the day! More to come later.
