G’day Mate!
Were now in Sydney. Staying in a town called Collaroy Beach (about half an hour from Sydney City). We checked in the day before New Years Eve, and booked ourselves a space on the mini bus that were taking groups from the hostel down to the bridge to watch the fireworks for NYE. Our bus (the 2nd -3rd of the day) got us down there for about 3pm. We were in a great spot, looking straight out at Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. The park was pretty cramped by the time we got there, so we ended up with a patch just to the right of the portable toilets, and just in front of the garbage bins, haha! Other than that it was a perfect view! We got chatting to the people sat next to us, 3 Swedish girls, and an Irish guy. They were really nice, so we had a good laugh with them, played some cards and had some drinks! There were some pre-fireworks at 9pm, they were good, but no where near as good as what was about to come! The Midnight fireworks were INCREDIBLE, a once in a lifetime moment. Never seen a display like it (and doubt we ever will again). We then had to wait until 2.30am for the bus from the hostel to pick us up.
New Years Day was a bit of a chill out day, just stayed near the hostel, and recovered from NY.
The next day we headed into the City (caught the bus). Spent the day shopping, dashing from shop to shop to avoid the torrential down pours of rain…typical we forgot our rain mac’s!! Today we woke up to drizzle again, so we headed to Manly beach (this time we took our rain macs)! Just browsed around a couple of shops (it continued to rain) then headed back to the hostel. It’s a shame about the weather as there are so many beautiful beaches but when its grey and raining you cant really appreciate it.
Tomorrow (Monday) we’ve booked to do our Harbour Bridge Climb. We have an afternoon slot, and were doing the express climb which takes just over 2 hours. So were going to head back into the City tomorrow morning and spend the day there looking around, and getting some photos before we do our climb in the afternoon (hopefully it doesn’t rain, because the climbs still go head even if the weathers bad)! May write again before we leave Sydney, if not it will be when we arrive in our next stop…Byron Bay!!
