So I successfully made it to Argentina with no major flight issues. The most interesting thing about my flight to Argentina was that in Chicago when I was waiting for my flight from Chicago to Miami a random guy sitting next to me asked me if I spoke Spanish. I thought that was funny because no ever assumes I speak Spanish since I'm a white blonde girl from Iowa. I told him yes and he asked for my help translating what the announcement about our flight said. It turned out that he was actually from Argentina so we spent the next hour speaking in Spanish about Argentina and where I should go visit. It was pretty fun and I got to practice my Spanish even before I got to Argentina!
Once I finally landed I was picked up by a car service and take to the hospital that we collaborate with. I met all the people that we work with and had lunch with them there and then was allowed to go home to my hostel to get some much needed rest since my flight had landed at 6 that morning and I hadn't gotten too much rest on the plane.
Then, on Friday I took the train myself back to the hospital and had lunch with everyone again before I began all of my site seeing. I uploaded all of my pictures to my first photo album. Buenos Aires is a very cool city with a lot of different things to offer. It reminds me of New York with different barrios but it also has some older sites and character also. i went to the grave site of Eva Peron which is in a huge cementary with super expensive vaults that families can buy to bury their dead. I also went to their Casa Rosada (their version of our White House except its pink). There are also a great deal of gardens in the city. I went to Jardin Japones which is a Japenese garden in the middle of Buenos Aires which is pretty cool to see.
The site seeing and observing the culture here has been fun. I've seen quite a bit but I'm excited that I'll get to come back here for 9 days before I head to the US because there is still so much I want to do here. Like go to a dinner and a tango show, check out their open air markets in San Telmo, and check out the other barrios I never made it to yet.
However, tomorrow I'll be flying out from here for Tucuman! Now that I'm a little adjusted to the culture, language, and food I'm excited to see what life is like in Tucuman. I'm expecting it to be much different than the big city life but I expect to really like living with my host family and actually getting to work in the hospital and meet the people there. Soon the vacation and site seeing part of my journey is over for a bit and the actual work and testing of my Spanish skills will start. But that's really what makes this adventure so great! Site seeing is fun but it would get a little old after a few months. I'm ready for really becoming a part of the culture and other exciting experiences to begin! :)
Hasta luego!
