Hue presented itself to me in a flurry of paddy hat sellers and a riverside not so dissimilar to South Bank in London. The sunset by the bridge on the Perfume river was a classic Asia moment, complete with a million motors competing to get to their destinations regardless of any traffic rules. I have since learnt that in Vietnam, that traffic lights are more to break the monotamy of the road rather than serving a purpose.
On the second day we took a cruise down the perfume river to some pagodas and temples and tombs on a touristic dragon boat, it was rather pleasant to float down the river. The most curious sights were the debris laden local boats to the extent that they were nearly sinking and old US war boats used by the local police. When I say old, I mean they looked like they were stolen from the War reminents museum from Saigon, covered in rust and whatnots, it's a miracle that it was even afloat! god bless Vietnam engineering!
