Nadi, Fiji
I quit my job having decided to do a bit of travelling before coming home. I had my flight booked as you know but then got an interview on 24th July so changed my flight to come home early. I have since been to Kerela, Kanykumari (the bottom of India where 3 seas meet), back to Agra for my brithday, done a whistle top goodbye tour of Gwalior, Chirgaon, Saiwara, and Nowgong and then headed up to Delhi. All lots of fun. All too much to write about especially in a scabby internet cafe. I now, however, have no money and am an unemployed homeless (jokes) so you'll all have to take me out for lunch/dinner/drinks to hear about the wonderful South Pacific. and Fiji Islands. Also, have been offered another job in Bhopal and will take it if I don't get anything in England (an very real possibility). My time in India has definately not come to an end just yet!
So whats next. had a bit of a strange day .
The majority of it was spent in the company of a Travel Agent in Nadi airport looking at what to do while in Fiji, I felt as soon as I hopped off the plane, I was hounded and shown all sort of fancy hotels, which is beyond my budget, after talking to a few backpackers I decided to tell the very large travel consultant, id be back!
So me and another friends who id met on the plane headed out to grab a cab!
What a mistake! Do not trust these Yellow taxi cabs, we jump in and said Nadi town, no meter was or first mistake!
Where are you from how long you be in Fiji, the usual...... i know a nice cheap place for you to stay, we said Nadi town please...he tryed to take us to some hotel by saying there all fully booked no space, we should listen to him he knows...being in other country has had a hard effect on me, before id be swayed but now....lol
Taxi cost FJD$25 to town but later we found out it should be $10 from airport to town
Lesson No:
- Always ask for meter in Fiji with Airport Taxi's
Nadi town is small not alot happening, heaps of indain shops and men trying to get you to buy from them
Big smiles and lots of Bula, bula...where u from! come have a look , cheap price for you!
lol
Temple at the bottom of town was nice, handi craft market, very large veg market, where we bought some fruits very cheap, pineapple, mango, some strage yellow fruit with seed in it pink in the inside but was very nice.
Went to the tourist info in the center of town, beside or across from Jacks of Fiji which is a brillant store but some things i thought where beyond my purse strings...
Tourist info wooden hut in middle of town.
Trying to sort out where to sleep was givin lots of help ful info by really nice staff, when a little fijian lady popped out from know where, interduce her self a Pae said she was a travel consultant, and would we like to go for a coffee in the shop behind the info hut.
Tired and been a few hours now and we thought why not!
armed with bags , fruit, we went with her, she explained the same as the travel consultant at the airport, but with a twist she a single mother with a son alone and she works as a agent and lives of her money she makes from booking tourist.
oh with the yes big , smile, praise the lord, so we booked one night with her, in one hostel and arranged to meet the next day
round Nadi Town which was very enjoyable, despite the heat. And in all, I'd call it a nice day, but a for afew things
time for head down. Oh FJD15 our basic dorm, clean bed all that maters nite!
