Hi all... so we have done so much recently we thought we'd post again today!
Ok so we cheated a little and included Columbia Icefields in with Banff but actually did this while staying in Jasper. We took a 3 hour interpretive hike from the bottom up the 1st of 4 steps on the glacier. Due to weather conditions we had to use crampons up & down. It was snowing and about 0'c and Lisa nearly fell down a millwell. These are what they call the holes in the ice from the melted water coming down the glacier. The one in the pictures is about 50 metres deep. Our guide told us about how quickly the ice is melting, 13metres in depth last year alone. Most scientists believe this glacier will have disappeared completely within our lifetime :(
Lake louise was crowded so we did a short walk around the shore and both got bitten by huge mossies. The mission impossible squirrel decided to investigate on one of our breaks. He heard the camera case rustling and spotted an oppurtunity for food. He was sooo friendly he sat on Ed's foot for a good few moments.
Whitewater rafting was next on our agenda, which we did down the Kicking Horse River. It was no where near as extreme as Scotland last year but was great fun all the same. We forgot the CD with the photos so will post these soon. Also met a couple from North Carolina who drove from Montana, got some ideas of places to visit.
Another hike but to Johnston Canyon this time. We decided to go to the upper falls which was pretty cool. There were lots of mistbows from the spray and catwalks built into the rock while the river was beneath you.Took a trip upto Lake louise area but this time went to Moraine Lake about 10km away. It was Labour day weekend so was crammed with people. This is where Lisa met her first mountie of the trip and we took another hike!!
A relaxed day of drives was next to Minnewanka loop. We did some short walks around the walks and climbed the rocks on the shore line.
Today is spent catching up on washing, sleep and eating!!! We're off to Calgary tomorrow for a couple of days and then to Dinosaur Park to see some fossils. We'll post again as soon as we can. Hope you are all well, rest assured we are enjoying the rain just as much as you back home :)
