Hello Again!
We have been in Buenos Aires for 4 Days now and although we have seen some great sights and learnt alot about the city we are ready to leave now has the weather has been cold and rainy and we are ready for some sun now.
Day 4: We arrived on Buenos Aires at 7:30am after 13hour flight that went really quick as we had three seats between us and were able to spred out and sleep. We arrived at the hostel around 9 but wasn't able to check in til 2 so we left our bags and went for a walk around the area. The hostel is in the heart of the city and within walking distance of most of the main sights. For the rest of the day we went to an arts and crafts market in San Telmo (the oldest part of the city), then went for dinner at reasturant called Siga La Voca which is an all you can eat buffy for AR$130 (17 pound) we got a bottle of wine, starter, main and dessert all included. And I have never seen so many different types of meat on one BBQ! I also got laughed at for ordering chicken.
Day 5: Today we took a tour of the city which was organised and guided by two university students. They took to us to all the major political and government sights in the city and we gained alot of the insight into the poltical History of the City. For example the riots that took place in 2001 were due to outspoken citizens wanting political change but also because people wanted to know what has happened to those that were kidnapped in the 1970's for being against the president of the time. Hundreds of people were kidnapped, tourtered and many unborn babies taken. The families of these babies still protest every thrusday to find out information about were these children were taken, so far they have recovered 100 children. We also learnt alot about Evita and her legacy.
Day 6: We decided to walk to La Boca, the poorest part of Buenos Aires. La Boca is where immigrants from Europe settled when Spain first colonised Argentina. La Boca has become a tourist attraction with it brightly coloured houses, shops and cafes. It is also home to the Boca Jouniers Stadium. However La Boca is still a very poor area and the surrounding area is not a place you would to visit, we took a wrong turning and felt very uneasy.
Day 7: Today we visted the opposite side of the city in terms of distance and wealth. Recolta is the richest part of the city and the home of Evitas final resting place, Evita was buried here after she was returned to Argentina after her body was kidnapped for decades. However this is the last place she would want to be layed to rest as she is now surrounded her enimies. The cemetery is where the richest and most important people of Buenos Aires are buried and the tombs are incredible, some are big than our house! Made from marble and gold. After that we walked around the big park areas surrounded by the big posh houses. We aslo went into a random japanese garden.
Day 8: Today we just relaxed around the hostle as we have an 18 hour bus journey to Iguaza Falls tonight.
