We arrived at our hotel in Singapore to find they had no record of our booking. The helpful staff did little to assist and we had to spend money getting the internet booking print out as evidence. No apology and they woudn't refund the internet costs! We got out of the hotel as soon as we could and headed for Raffles. After touring Raffles shopping City complex (just one of about 50 shopping malls in tower blocks) we headed to the Raffles hotel where we had the compulsary Singapore Sling and a fruit cocktail. Both surprisingly nice. This was followed by an equally nice trip the to Raffles bakery. To work off the calories we went to the see the Singapore Merlion (a statue dreamt up by the Singapore tourist board) and then searched for a recommended chocolate shop for the guide book. 1hour later we found it just as it was closing. Never mind, our comfy hotel room awaited us - when we opened the door we were given a warm welcome by a cockroach lying on our bed. As the room had clearly been double booked we chose to change rooms. The next day we went to an underground bunker (Ians choice of trip clearly), the former comand centre for British forces in WW2 Singapore, and had dessert and drinks at the nearby golf club, old mess of far east command (yawn).
For excitement we did shopping on Orchard street and treated ourselves to hairdresses and a chic flic movie Enchanted. Forty five pounds worth of shoes later we went to Sentosa Island where we went on a cable car ride and on a luge down a hill which was cool. We watched a horrific light show later on- a terrible story line but great special effects- not to be missed by any traveller. Dinner was a Mc Ds (we were hungry).
Hope school is ok K J and E
Love you loads
