30th june Rockhampton-Rainbow Beach
today i woke up with a stinking head cold! ..and so opted out of my turn to drive as we had a long one. we were heading to rainbow beach where we would do our fraser island trip from. along the way we stopped off at a place called childers for some lunch, which was a very interesting town.. very 'local' is all i will say.we then carried on the drive to rainbow beach, where we booked our day trip to fraser for the next day and booked into a capmsite for the ngiht so we could power up!
1st july Fraser Island Caz's birthday
early rise didnt happen as i switched off my alarm without realising, oops! we had a mega rush to get to the pick up point on time! we were doing the day trip to fraser, and we went on a big 4wd truck/bus with out driver/tour guide mark. mark was hilarious, very dry sense of humour and we spent the day laughing at him. the day trip included seeing a lot of sites in a short period of time.. we saw eli creek, the pinnacles, a shipwreck but forget what its called, we walked through the rainforest and spent an hr at lake mckenzie. lake mckenzie was really beautiful but i was the only one who braved getting in as the water was freezing cold!.. the novelty wore off after about 30 secs and the chance to get a pic or two lol. it was a really cool experience going over the beach and rocks in the truck, and offroading on the sand... very bumpy! would have been great if we had longer to spend there and could have had the driving 4x4 experience. had a fab day all in all, and then on the ferry back over to rainbow beach mark took us up to the control room where we were ecstatic to meet BRUCE the ferry guy, we have become obsessed with the name bruce since we got here and was calling mark bruce behind his back all day! caz got to steer the ferry as a birthday treat! we were originally going to move on further that night but ended up staying in rainbow beach overnight, we just parked up outside a hostel and sneakily used their loo's before bed! we also did a surprise bday tea for caz that night too, we got balloons and a cake and a buffet going on and had a little tea party which was nice!
2nd july Steve Irwin Zoo
we drove toward brisbane today and for the australia zoo!!! had a wicked day at the zoo, we went to see a show at the crocoseum, fed the kanga's, and i had my pic taken cuddling a koala!!! among other animals and less interesting stuff lol. it was wierd being at his zoo and reading all the tribute stuff they had, we got a bit emotional! then we drove a bit further toward brisbane where we powered up at a campsite that night, and went out to treat ourselves for a curry.
3rd july Brisbane
head into brisbane to look for somewhere we could park up the camper van, we knew it would be difficult as there are no sites in city centre, so managed to find a hostel that let us park in car park and pay reduced fee so that we cuold sleep in the camper and use their facilities. that afternoon the other girls all had their hair done and i chilled and wen on the net etc for a few hrs in town. that night we were going out to celebrate properly for caz's bday. we were originally going to do fancy dress but didnt manage to find anything. we drank some goon in the van and played a few games of our new game 'shimmy shimmy' then head to go out on ann st in the valley, where the hairdresser had recommended to the girls... mmmmmmm!!! the first few places we went were so chavvy, it was like going out up broad st but worse, nothing like what we have been used to so far! we then went to a club called the met, but we seemed to be really old in comparison to all the other '18' yr olds!!! all in all not an overly successful night, we should have done some more research on where to go really! for future reference!
4th july Brisbane- Byron Bay
we had ourselves a nice lie in!! then got the ferry citycat into north quay, the main shopping mall area. we stocked up on some more winter clothes, as really feeling the temperature change now especially at night! after a few hrs shopping we had to start the journey towards byron bay, and as i was finally feeling better... my turn to drive beaut!!!!
we drove a couple of hrs to byron bay, and spent the night on some land near the town centre.
