We took a little longer than expected today. I didn't feel well in the early afternoon so I napped. Then Sheila was getting drowsy from driving so she pulled into a rest area. We napped and then hit the road. We ate crackers and cheese for lunch while driving. We did the same for dinner only sandwiches were on the menu.
Bailey has been such a good girl! She just sleeps until we stop. She's always glad to get out and sniff around. We stopped at Stucky's to use the facilities and Sheila shared her Ice cream with her. What a treat!
We've been chasing a storm since AZ. Luckily we haven't hit a lot of it directly. Hopefully our luck will hold up.
So we're at the Ramada Inn in Clinton, OK. We're about an hour west of OK City which is where we'll pick up the 44 and head NE through Tulsa and into Joplin, MO.
We crossed the Continental Divide which is the hydrological divide that determines whether water drains into the Pacific or into the Atlantic. It runs from as far north as the Arctic Ocean all the way through South America along the Andes Mountains.
We also saw the "Cadillac Ranch" which is a line of Cadillacs half buried on their noses. It's an art installation open to the public and has been there since 1974 as a monument to the Cadillac. Bruce Springsteen saw the site while traveling cross country and wrote a song by the same title on his River Album.
CADILLAC RANCH Lyrics
Artist: Bruce Springsteen
Well there she sits buddy just a-gleaming in the sun
There to greet a working man when his day is done
I'm gonna pack my pa and I'm gonna pack my aunt
I'm gonna take them down to the Cadillac Ranch
Eldorado fins, whitewalls and skirts
Rides just like a little bit of heaven here on earth
Well buddy when I die throw my body in the back
And drive me to the junkyard in my Cadillac
Cadillac, Cadillac
Long and dark shiny and black
Open up your engines let `em roar
Tearing up the highway like a big old dinosaur
James Dean in that Mercury `49
Junior Johnson runnin' through the woods of Caroline
Even Burt Reynolds in that black Trans Am
All gonna meet down at the Cadillac Ranch
Cadillac, Cadillac...
Hey little girlie in the blue jeans so tight
Drivin' alone through the Wisconsin night
You're my last love you're my last chance
Don't let `em take me to the Cadillac Ranch
Cadillac, Cadillac...
Onwards!
