hey hey hey!
soooooooooo......... we decided to get to cambodia for a bit of culture!
it cost us 2000B from Phangnan, by taxi and3 buses!stoppin in bangkok first.we spent a nyt andwent to MGB which is a big shopping centre which has 6 floors!Torq bought his3rd camera!we went out during the nyt, but i went home early cos i was tired and heard that it was a rocky ride to siem reap.andy came back without torq and we got to the meeting point which was the police stn down Khao San rd.luckily the bus was hour late and i told the bus driver that torq was in the taxi just up the road after he started driving!he waited and torq jumped on shortly after!
the guy incharge charged us an extra 300B cos aparantly our tikt which wer booked in haad rin wernt valid!then we paid him $20 for our visas so we wudnt have to wait around!
going through the visa place, me and torq realized that we had outstayed our thai visas by 2days and had to pay 1000B!we thought it was 1month but it was just 30 days!!
the bus took us straight to siem reap and to a hotel called the green village.it was lush!$6 for a room.the 3of us shared one room.during the day we went to visit the market but bought nowt.the following day we arranged a trip to angkor wat, which is apparently the largest religious site in the world, and also where Tomb Raider was filmed.there were 4 diff temples that u visit for $20 in total. I decided against it at the last min cos im a bit bored or temples now.so torq and andy went alone and i went shooting with a canadian from Vancouver called Lucas. WE both decided on the same guns: AK47 , baby! It was so much fun annd i got a bullseye!! in automatic mode , it was a diff story! its 2 piowerful and the guy had to place his hand on ourtriggerfinger shoulders! it was very empowering!!! After that we took lotsa pix with other guns, tommyguns, bazookas, M15s! nuts!(im still not good at this puttin pix up, so havent bin a ble to, but will shortly!hopefully!sorry!dont really have patience for technology!)
that evening after dinner we went out looking for icecream, but ended up with warm beer instead! i dont like beer, least of all warm, so i left it to the guys!
the next day we got the bus to phnom penh, whr we currently are.the first day, we watched Borat in our hotel, the lazy fish andf during the evening, we went to a pub called the magic sponge with a liverpudlian bartender.met mainly english thr.i gota bucket of cocktail for 60p roughly!!!!!met sum irish guys and hada few games of table jenga with them!wata laugh!
the next day we went to another shooting range cos the lads hadnt done any shooting and they pick AK47s and i chopse a p45 handgun! u cuda thrown hand grenasdes here also!it was so powerful!i wanted the biggest shotgun and it was kinda heavy.i got 7bullets for $15.i didnt even get my target once cos it was so powerful!the first time i s\fired it, i flewe back a bit, so the guy had his hands on my back!the only thing with this gun was that it had kick, which means that wen u fire it itraises cos of the force of the bullet and obviously my lack of experience and strength!if i do it again, im gona aim lower and hopefully ill get somin wen it kicks!!! i think that even after not gettin target, the handgun was the most empowering! we went to the killing fields after this and bumped into the irish lads again and one of them, a big fellow swed he didnt get anything with the handgun either!
the killing fields wasnt very nice, but it was strange cos thrs a school next door and were walking through this abandoned school whr kids were tortured and killed from orders of pol pot , but u can hear kids laughing in the playground next door.we saw big holes where masses of kids were burried, millions of skulls, bones around trees, a torture tree, graves with no skulls, aplace whr weapons used to be kept!so tragic.
after this we visited the genocide museum, which was more graphic!there was a beam whr ppl wer hung and buildings whr the classrooms were turned into torture chambers and prisons whr thr wer still chains tied to the doors, tins labelled cement or excrement.thr was barbed wire around the buildings and some rooms converted into memorials. these rooms had millions ofpictures of men, women and kids with number tags on them looking scared, lost, bewildered, pictures or dead ppl and ppl of all ages being tortured! there was a glass cabinet with the weapons used in it. chains, animal hunting metal clasp like things, a machine at hammers holes into ppls heads.even pictures derpicting this. here we saw even more human skulls, their clothes and even some bones! there were clothes cleaned with deodorant and encased in class boxes. some of the skulls had bullet holes, you could see the impact the bullets had on the skulls. we took many pictures and one picture of a map of the places where there had been massacres made out of skulls. we went to watch a movie about this tragic atrocity that explained about how Pol Pot failed college and wanted to kill all the educated people. there was an interview with a women whos son had been taken away but ended up being a soldier in the khmer rouge army, needless to say she never say him again but apparently she thinks he's still alive. it got too hot in their and the english accented narrator had such a monotonous voice that we just had to leave half way through because we couldn't concentrate and were falling asleep. on the next floor down there was a room which had photographs and short biographies of some of the soldiers of the khmer rouge written by close relatives. they all came from educated families or were ironically monks, previously.
after this i went for a 'short nap' and andy and torq went to play pro evo in the magic sponge. when they returned four hours later i was still asleep and we all sleep til about 9am this morning. today we went to the russian market and bought each other random presents. andy bought me a pair of funny socks with a space for one toe and the rest of my toes. torq brought andy a pink kids hello kitty watch and i brought torq a flyh swatter in the shape of a foot! generous andy also brought a present for torq which was a kids sparkely sequined blue alice band! happy days!!
we want to get a visa for vietnam but as its the weekend we can't apply for it until monday, so therefore won't be able to get one until tuesday at the earliest.
torq is going back to 'bang-kok' and then to chang mai and then laos and we will be meeting back up in bangkok at the beginning of march before we fly to australia.
