So that picture has nothing to do with what i'm doing but it was the first one i saw that looked interesting and i fgured i could sell you guys with the pic... so i'm not gonna lie this keyboard i'm using is AWFUL so if some wordsdon't make sense just bear with me! soooo heres the biggest news so far i think of my journey....you ready?!?!?! after much debate and thinking, i cut my hair....short! haha actually i did'nt cut my hair i went to a barber here, which was incredible by the way... he gave me a hair cut, shave (like old school style with the brush lather, razor blade, after shave, facial rub) all for 25 rupees, which is less than a BUCK! the man shaved my face! it was incredible haha but the sad truth of the matter is that underneat the mop top is a shade of hair far darker than any that has ever been on my head before, so before i start looking too much like my dad, i'm trying to bleach it out as best i can!... but i may surprise some poeple, i geuss my roots haven't got much sun in a while, or ever... i thought about shaving my head completely but thought better and just stuck with the hair cut.. well now to what is gonig on in my life in india, everything is so different here its unbelievable... one thing for example, is we have to pump our own water like a block away with one of those lke old school pump things from like the wild west, then lug huge buckets back to our place and up 3 flights of stairs, makes you appreciate indoor plumbing, as do the squaty pottys we have to use... i've become pretty good at the whole system tho... another thing is there is no concept of trash around here... one of the guys who lives at teh base we're staying at asked me last night to help him bring out the trash, which consists of taking the trash bags and throwing them into the gutter in the street, bcaues that is pretty much your only option... it is very very different... butttttt to not scare you away from india forever, it has been amazing coming back to kolkatta, the temperature is fantastic (it isn't monsoon or summer so the temp is ideal) things have settled down as far as getting used to life indian style so its been awesome to be in th big city... we have been workng with the street kids every day, its been amazing... each day they come in the morning to the place where we stay, we feed and bathe them, teach them, play with them and just hang out... then in the afternoons an hour or two after they leave we go out on the street to where they roam where there "territory" is... its unbeleivable that these kids (probbly like 30 or so) all sleep on the sidewalk of a huge street and after thy leave us they either sleep, hang out, play cricket (which by the way is HUGEEEEE in india, EVERYONE plays cricket) or dig through the trash... these guys prtty much live out of the trash... i dunno what they would do without the people that we are staying with... but none-the-less it has been fantastic to get to know these kids, and they lvoe us and we love them... so its been great... its harder with the older kids becuase they need more communication and i don't speak an Bengali, but the younger kids will just climb all over you.. oh which brings me to another point about my hair, i didnt really wanna get lice, so i decided to take the safe path and reduce my changes with a hair cut... lice is pretty much rampant here, but thats just a side note... oh and also i'm sorry if i disappointed anyone by cutting my hair, but oh well! it was crazy long tho man, it was strange no doubt... well i'm sure there is more i could say but i dunno?? this woul,d be easier if you guys could jsut ask me questions and i could say my response back to you but this is the best i got... we have found some coffee shops near us that we frequently visit during the night, becuase it is a little taste of the western world, which is sometimes a welcomed relief... oh another thing, i have never had so much spicy food in my life! haha these people realllly spice it up no joke, but the food has been incredible, and much to many peoples dismay i order things off the street because they taste so stinken good (nan and chicken wraps, ohhhh man) and im still alive so i'm not too worried, and dn't worry its all cooked and good, i make sure of it! today i ate fish stomach too by the way, wastn' too bad actually... i've definately eaten some interesting things since going to NZ and india, but not i'm wayyy off topic and this blog doen't even make sense any more! ewll i hope all is well back in freezing cold MN... i'm sad bethel lost, but i can't believe how far tehy made it! waht an amazing season... well i'm off for dinner, then us americans are making everyone here banana splits! should be quite teh night! much love
