After the seven hour train journey from Singapore with nothing to eat we arrived safely at Kula Lumpur and managed to find somewhere to sleep, I think it was the hottest room in the world despite having airconditioning, aparently. We spent our first day having a look around and sweating, we didn't make it up the towers as you have to get up at daft o'clock to get a ticket so we just went up the communication tower instead and thats about all we did in KL.
From there we joined a three day tour to the Tamen Nagara jungle, where we visited a hill tribe and they showed us how they make fires and hunt etc, we then had the biggest water fight ever on the boat trip back where the annoying kid got soaked, mwh ha ha ha. Also went on a 2 1\2 hour trek, now this doesn't sound like much but when it's up a BIG hill in the middle of a jungle it's hard. Having a fear of heights and rickety looking bridges the canopy walk wasn't high up on my list of things to do as it was 50 m high and looked like it was just a couple of bamboo sticks tied together. But i was brave and a did it, albeit at a snail pace and not looking down.
After our adventures in the jungle we headed over to the Cameron Highlands and a welcomed break from the humidity. The main thing to do whilst in the Cameron Highlands is visit a tea plantation, but as we were there on a Monday when they are all closed we didn't get chance to go. We did have a lovely scone to make up for it.
From there we went over to the Perhentian islands for a bit of a break, this travelling lark is hard sometimes. It is such a beautiful place, our hut was just off the beach, there are no cars or streets it's just how you imagin an island to look like. We spent the first day sun bathing so now I look like an abbo (apparently) and then on the second day we went snorkeling where we went swimming with a giant turtle, held a baby turtle and learnt something interesting about sea cucumbers. After all the excitment of the trip we headed back to our hut where there was a MASSIVE cockroach in our room, it took both of us to kill it! Thinking that was all the creature encounters over and done with we went to bed, only to be woken by a rustling noise which we couldn't decide came from outside or in our room. As it turned out the noise was coming from inside our room it was a RAT! I didn't get a wink of sleep after that.
After all the excitment of the islands we made the trip over to Thailand, which sounds simple enough but it was a right pain in the arse and the Lonely Planet lies! We finally manged to get over to Thailand, had to fork out for a flight but we got there in the end.
