Hi All
So last time I wrote I was in kerala - yet again a lot has changed since then. We left kerala by ferry and then train and headed as I said to Goa. Firstly we went to Calangut in North Goa to hunt down Maria and Anoushka, they flew out with us but we havent seen them much due to our different routes around india so far. We managed to see them for a few hours before they flew out to delhi, it was a nice reunion but a little bit short.
The following day we headed to south Goa - a beach named Palolem after a rather tiring 2 buses and numerous hours we arrived but not before we were in our 2nd automobile crash of the trip, our bus driver was looking the wrong way and didnt see a woman running across the road waving for him to stop and let her on. He knocked her flat out into a bush, me and kim watched in horror with 50 school kids as the woman didnt move for what felt like a very long couple of minutes. When she finally came round she was just dazed but not hurt - by this point however the bus had been surrounded by locals all bying for the drivers blood - typically he let her on and drove off as if nothing had happened?!
Palolem was sooo much fun, again me and kim made a good group of friends which made our time there more special. We had met a lad called Michael in Kerala and then bumped into him in Palolem too, in the end we spent our whole time whilst in Goa in his company, he was cheeky but honest and made me and kim giggle with the funny stories of his friends back home and his time living in france. The beach in Palolem isnt the cleanest but its well set up with beach from hotels, bars and restaurants. One bar named Coctails and Dreams but known by the backpacker community as the Star Bar was open 24 hours and was the place to be if you wanted to meet other travels and have a good time.
One day we went to a private beach - we hired mopeds, me, kimberley, michael, dave, chris, astrid, poppy and Miranda all drove to find it. I was shakey on my ped my kim was more nervous so I held back and we trundled along the windey coast road together. After a 40 min drive we found the beautiful alcove and we were the beaches only guests that day. Everyone spent the day sunbathing, Chris slept off his hangover, michael and kim plonked chairs knee height in the sea and sat reading their books and I wondered down the beach alone. I sat by myself at the other end of the beach for a while and watched a family of eagles fishing it was fab, I did my best david attenbrough impression and snapped a shot to impress - I have never been that close to wild birds of prey before so I was scared but also in awe. Dave got to eat his favourite Calamari (which he wouldnt shut up about) and we all went home relaxed and happy.
We had some fab nights in Palolem too, 2 days where dry days due to the election but after the owner of Star bar won alcohol was available again. By this point out group had changed, Poppy and Miranda had gone home, Chris had gone to Keralal and Astrid went to Mumbai. But we had also acquired 2 new girls in the form of Cat and Shell - two 23 yr old girls from Norfolk and Scotland who were coming to the end of their year long trip. We played drinking games including Mushaboom, Fuzzy Duck, Up the river and down the Liver and drew some attention to ourselves whilst playing ring of fire by standing on our chairs doing the chicken dance. We were joined one night by a young brit couple who turned out to be swingers and after getting hammered they eventually decided to ask Michael and Kimberley to join them!! haha .... they ummed and arrred and then said no ... think michael was tempted though. Kim had some hilarious drunk moments in Palolem, like when she decided one night she might have had too much to drink and because of her age? she must go home immediately but not before she decided she was hungry at 2am and ordered (and ate) 2 plates of spring rolls! classic kimberley and rather funny to watch.
After a sad farewell we left Goa 2 days ago and went to Delhi - Delhi is cool but we didnt get long to stay there as we only have 12 days left in india. Whilst there we sat for 2 hours with an idiot but eventually booked all our travel around the north up to when we leave, which includes a car with driver around rajestan and 2 over night trains - the final train is 25 hours long!! but we saved 11000 rupees by choosing this method of travel so it was worth while. Our driver took us to see some tombs, the gateway of india, the biggest mosque in india and the India Heart Market. He also took us to see the Lotus temple, possibly one of my favourite things to see in India so far it was cool. The temple is built in support of a religion named Bahai whos followers believe in one common religion encompassing all of the worlds religions into one. The building was breath taking and so serene - I could have spent hours in there relaxing within my multicultural surroundings.
We left Delhi and arrived in Pushka today, the first day of Diwali (Indias Christmas) and my birthday! But I will write a separate blog for that ;)
I hope everyone is well
