Day 1 in San Francisco...firstly, happy to have survived my first night in a hostel!! Was definitely a new experience for me, really weird sharing a room with strangers! Me and Odette got the giggles because we didn't know what to do about things like getting in a our PJs, turning the lights on when people are sleeping etc... Thankfully Nikki is an experienced traveller so we are learning the etiquette from her!! I can't say I like being in a hostel, but it's not too bad! I'm sure I'll get used to it very quickly.
Had a very busy day in San Fran today, we did a bus tour around the area and then went to the Alcatraz island which was amazing! Except for an influx of flies! We were literally COVERED in flies and batting them away the whole time! We all ended up putting our hoods up and pulling the cords so only our eyes were showing!
We then visited Pier 39 for a drink in Neptunes bar which had amazing views of the marina and outside had hundreds of Seals! They were so cute but stank really bad!
Day 2 of San Francisco - we got back on our tour bus but did the Golden Gate Bridge route this time, the tour took us over the bridge to a place called Sausalito which we nick named sausageville (because we couldn't remember how to say the name, not because of the quality of the men!) Sausalito is about 15 degrees hotter than San Fran so we were boiling there, but it was lovely to get our first taste of hot sunshine! It's a really beautiful little town, all the houses are amazing and it has really quirky cafés and restaurants. We got off the bus and wandered round for an hour, stopped at a restaurant called Trident for a nice glass of wine (forgetting our 'backpacker budget'!!) the view was fantastic, across the bay we could see the San Fran skyline and the bridge.
We then went back on the other tour routes we had done the day before so we could jump off at the places we fancied exploring. One area is known as hippy town (Haight Ashbury) and it literally is full of them, we got offered weed almost immediately! There is some really funky/vintage shops there, one called Wasteland and one called the decades of fashion which was sooo cool, it looked like a fancy dress shop but was actually just vintage clothes from every era! We got a tram back to Washington Square which is where we were meeting Od's friend Sam for dinner, Washington square is quite fancy so we felt really scruffy in our trainers, hoodies and scruffy hair from the windy open top buses!! We had a lovely dinner with Sam in an Italian place then went back for an early night because we were being picked up for our flight to Vegas at 4:30am!
