After a surprisingly good nights sleep out under the stars we were awoken to the sound of breakfast being prepared. It was a strange experience sleeping outside, in the middle of the night I woke up as there was a bright light shining in my face - turns out it was the moon! I've never seen the moon that big or bright before! We got changed in our sleeping bags (!) and then chatted to a few more people over breakfast. After packing up the bus we made our way to Bryce Canyon which was much higher up than Zion so a lot colder!
The bus dropped us off and showed us where the showers were for later and we headed off on a trail with a few of the others. It was strange having to wear a jacket and it even rained for a little while, but the views were stunning. The landscape looked like the set of a star wars film, another surreal experience! The hike down was fine, but then we had to get back up! I made it, with a lot of stops! We got the shuttle bus back to where we started and made use of the showers - $2 for 8 minutes which didn't sound like very long but was more than enough time!
The bus drove into the campsite and we started to make dinner. We were warned that it would get colder later on but we couldn't believe how cold it was! We had our fleeces on but still had shorts on so our legs felt like ice! I ended up helping with the washing up after dinner and couldn't feel my hands or feet!
We were sleeping on the bus that night doing a night drive so after dinner the bus was 'miraclised' and turned from seats to beds. Everyone had to decide where they were going to sleep and as we were a couple we got priorty for the 'couple's quarters - basically sleeping on top of a table or underneath it! The tops of both the tables were taken first so we got 'the cave' which is the name for underneath the table. It was a tight squeeze under there and not the best nights sleep ever, but it was certainly an experience! It got a bit better after a few hours but we definately wouldn't choose to sleep there again!
The bus drove overnight to The Arches National Park for our next days adventure...
