This morning, Chris and Paul planned to take us to the farmers' market in Willunga. Unfortunately, their dog Jez was still unwell so they took her to the vets first thing and she was kept in for tests and to be rehydrated. Poor Jez! We eventually arrived in Willunga mid-morning and made a stop at the local bakery for pies and cakes. Today we were left alone again and got on with our jobs - I went up on the roof to start sanding down and stripping paint from the timber beams up there, and Laura started to paint the garden chairs we sanded yesterday! We also put up new bug screens on the back door and the 'shed' door. The weather was hot all morning and we'd heard it was meant to get to 37°c! Today both Chris and Paul were at work so we had the house to ourselves. Chris had left us a note with our jobs for the morning - nothing too strenuous today! Before we started our jobs, we rang a car/campervan relocation company and added ourselves to the waiting list for a car/camper going from Adelaide to Melbourne over the next week. This morning we woke up to a note from Chris saying that she'd taken Kelly to the vet. After we'd had our breakfast, Chris returned to say that the vet had had to put Kelly to sleep - very sad news, but probably for the best. Chris had brought her home and laid her in the bedroom. Today our work was slightly different to yesterday - we had to tear down a massive fence at the back of the garden. This involved pulling apart the metal sheeting and pulling it off the fence posts, and removing all of the fence posts out of the ground. It was nice to be outside, after being in the garage all morning yesterday, but it was hard work being in the hot sun.
