After Air Asia so thoughtfully cancelled our flight to Bangkok we were forced to spend 15 hours in Singapore airport. And ohhhhh what a long 15 hours it was! We managed to find a lovely spot of carpet to sleep for a couple of hours but the other 13 hours consisted of eating, internet and Xbox. It's a night we'd rather forget.
When we eventually arrived in Bangkok it was a totally different experience to our last trip there. This time, after Nepal, Bangkok seemed clean and quiet! Seeing as we only had a day we decided to cruise the city on foot and we ended up at Lumphini Park. It's like a little oasis in the centre of the bustling city. There were hundreds of people in the middle of the park doing dance aerobics. The moves were so hilarious and they were so into it. I'm a sucker for a good paddle boat, especially one in the shape of a duck, so we went for a paddle on the lake and watched the sun go down and city light up. It was lovely except for Cal constantly paddling us toward the disgusting swimming monitor lizards.
We went to a great night market for dinner but it wasn't until hours later that we realised it was the same market we had been to last year. So silly. The stalls are incredible. There are so many young designers selling their clothes and jewelry. Everything was so cool and way cheaper than at home but the thought of my already heavy backpack getting heavier put a quick end to my shopping dreams.
The following day I was woken to expletives shouted from Cal's bed and I was informed that we had missed our bus to Cambodia. I was actually a little tiny bit happy because it meant another day in my beloved Bangkok. Being such independent travelers these days we used the Metro and Subway to dart around the city. It's amazing how quick you can get around on the underground public transport compared to sitting in the traffic. After a delicious dim sum lunch at MBK shopping centre we went to Siam Paragon which is a more designer shopping centre but we were only after one thing....CHEESE!!! I had been having withdrawals and the gourmet market was cheese heaven! We made a little platter and had a delicious snack on the deck of our guesthouse. It was the best.
After all our hard work we thought we deserved a relaxing massage. However we did not realise that the Thai massage we asked for was not going to be relaxing. My masseuse spent the hour jumping all over me and twisting my arms and legs in ways they are not supposed to bend! I know I'm not the most flexible person in the world but this was ridiculous! We felt very stretched and flexed and bruised afterward but it is supposed to be good for you. Hmmm we'll see.
We have set the alarm for the bus and checked it 10 times over so provided it decides to work this time we should be off to Cambodia tomorrow!!!
