Hey from New York!
Arrived here Wednesday eve after a really smooth flight which was nice. We're staying in a hostel in the Upper West side district near Central Park. We pretty much crashed straight away the first night after a gruelling trip from the airport on bus then tube then foot to the hostel!
On our 1st day we had a traditional american breakfast of pancakes and coffee then met up with Nathan, a guy we met on our Africa trip. We walked around Central Park -which is massive! Then went to the American Natural History Museum - it looks exactly like in "Night at the Museum" which pleased me greatly! Then had an afternoon of walking into and around downtown New York, including the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, Chrysler Building, Grand Central Station and 5th Avenue with all the designer stores. Last night we went to Times Square, which is just as bright as it looks on tv! We went to an Irish pub for a beer then on to a pizza place for tea and then wandered back to the hostel as we were exhausted from all the walking!
Today we are planning to get the ferry across to Ellis Island and Liberty Island where the Statue of Liberty is and then explore Brooklyn and then back to Times Square to try to see a show on Broadway.
We're really enjoying new york so far, its a nice city with lots to see and the people we have met so far have all been very friendly. Its hotter than we had expected though at about 28 degrees!
Will write again soon when we have done more and add pics.
