well since the last blog we have travelled into belize and across to guatemala so there's lots to say...no doubt you've seen some of teh photos by now.....
we finished our time on isla mujeres with a snorkelling trip where we saw coral, barracudas, starfish and other random fish. i got lost and the snorkelling guide tried to drown me but aprt from that it was a successful trip! we also got to hold sharks and listen to a very cheesy mexican band whilst eating fresh fish (yum) and watching old ladies dancing! to celebrate the end of the day we drank our own weight in cocktails, and sal forgot to put bottoms on and went out in her top only.... consequently we had a very lazy following day!! the evening = went to cancun and COCOBONGO!!!
cocobongo is unlike any club in teh UK . we arrived half 10ish and from then onwards there was fab music, trapeze artists (superman, batman, the mask, beetlejuice = coolest midget ever) and celeb impersonators (MJ, beyonce, frank s, moulin rouge etc). there were also some very yummy men in tight white sheets (that left little to the imagination) with hot bodies which all the girls perved over as they did acrobatics etc mmmmmmmmm. the free drinks all night offer was utilised very well by us all resulting in someone passing out on the toilet, lots of 4am pizza consumption, one frantic search for a lost camera and a certain someone waking up on the roof terrace with no recollection of who took her up there (and it wasnt me)......
recovering the nxt day, lucy (one of the girls we were travelling with) left and the beach was visited (vomit-infested waters). the next night we went out but was much less successful than the previous night. next stop....belize!
after a long adventurous coach journey where we got stopped by the police we reached orange walk for a relaxing evening before going to lamanai the next day. lamaini involved getting a super fast boat up the river in torrential style storms and ending up in a ruin site in the jungle. same old same old. ooh we also saw lots of howler monkeys. we also met a few characters in orange walk including this old dude who thought niall was from the nile and alejandro was alexander the great, and the campest cinammon bun-deliverer ever. tried the local specialities of cowfoot soup (niall) and rice and beans (the rest of us).
CAYE CAULKER! is perhaps the most beautiful place so far. it's a tiny island off the coast of belize where we spent a couple of days in teh sun and going out. had the most delivious bbq-d seafood on the beach = lobster/ red snapper/ barracuda and lots and lots of rum!! we also managed to go snorkelling again where we saw the same as before, but got to swim with stingrays and see manatees which was pretty cool. karaoke in the eve (dont worry i didnt sing that much) and many drinks....
next day (sun 29th) we travelled to san ignacio, wandered round in the afternoon and booked our trip to ATM (actun tunichal muknal) a cave in the jungle. this was soooo good and dead exciting, we clambered over rocks in a pitch black cave, swam through waters, saw skeletons and mayan pots and got to wear the coolest head torches/helmet combo EVER!!! unfortunately no photos as camera is not waterproof but may be able to acquire some soon!!!
guatemala...and more jungle...this time at sunrise (3am start!!!!!) from the top of a mayan pyramid. the ruins were really spread out over the jungle and we had a nice old trek through the plants and trees and snakes and jaguars and spiders but fortunately it was pitch black so none of these were seen. we got to hear the jungle waking up though which was pretty unique.
and thats us up to date! off to antigua tonight on the night bus....
love to all xxxxxxxxxx
