We arrived in Bali at around 7pm and took an hour and a half taxi to our hotel (Sens Hotel and Spa) in Ubud. We checked in and were given welcome drinks and chocolate cake. As it was late, around 10pm, we ordered room service for dinner.
The next day we got up early and took our washing to a local laundry shop and then went and visited the monkey sanctuary. It's basically a forest where all the monkeys are free to do whatever they like. You can pay for bananas to feed them and they will jump up on to you and eat them. we didn't do this though as some of them were massive and we had seen one boy who had been scratched by one so we were slightly nervous, especially Luke haha! I got my phone out at one point and one of the monkeys thought it was food and jumped on to my leg. Luckily it was only a small one and jumped off again straightaway it I think I would have been a lot more scared of it was a big one! There were some tiny baby monkeys there being carried around by their mums and they were so so cute. It was nice to see them free roaming around rather than cooped up in a cage but also meant the guides working there had less control over them. We had lunch at a local restaurant and then in the afternoon we went on a ridgeway trek. It was all along the countryside and through rice paddy fields, the views were lovely! We stopped for a drink at the cafe at the end and then walked back. For dinner we had reservations at a restaurant I had been recommended by a friend and luckily we did reserve a table as it was packed and they had to turn people away! The idea of the restaurant was that it was linked to a charity and each meal bought was equivalent to 2 medical appointments. They had all young adults working there to give them experience and the food was amazing! We had an earlyish night as we were up really early the next day to catch a boat to Gili Trangawan.
