Our drvie yesterday was a short one from the Geothermal rich area od Rotorua south to Lake Taupo - the largest lake in NZ. We got in early so it was off to get a daily fishing license from the local shop along with some advice on where to go spin casting for trout. The owner gave us a few location on the lake that were fairly close to town along with THE RULES..... I was very fortunate to catch a legal size trout (over 40cm) on my second cast. We thought if its that easy - lets release this fish and catch more. We decided to keep the one and only catch of the day. Thanks goodness because we only got one more stike in the afternoon after stopping at a few different location. Great way to enjoy this beautiful lake. When we checked into our hotel - I asked if any resturants in town will cook the trout for us. So happens the chef at the place where we were staying cooked it (Steamed w/ herbs) for us (for a fee) and it was very nice and delicate - different to the fish we are used to eating from the ocean. Next one we catch will be pan fried cripsy...... Today we will be off for another short (180km) drive to a costal town called Napier in Hawkes Bay known to be a huge wine grape growing region. I'm sure fun will be had by all.......Cheers
