31st June-5th June
So I've spent most of my week in this wonderful city and it is one of my favourite cities in the world. I arrived on Monday and my friend Melanie came to pick me up and I crashed with her on Monday night and it had been a year since we caught up in London so it was fantastic to see her again. On Tuesday Annika flew into town to spend 3 days with me, one of those days being my birthday so already it was shaping up to be a good week. After we picked Annika up and got to the hotel, we headed over to Granville island walking along the bay and taking a waterbus over there. We had lunch and drinks before going shopping round Granville. Best shop of the day, Miss Edie's Hatshop, full of traditional and modern hat styles at seriously rip off prices but it was fantastic. I love hats so was in heaven trying everything on. So after a little shop, headed back to the hotel where we ate and drank lots of wine. The next day was pouring down so we headed up to Capilano where the famous suspension bridge is but found it was a big theme park. Got over the bridge and we both tried to jump along the bridge to freak people out but too many people were looking at us. The bridge is about 230 meteres above a river so not for people with height fright. After being there for a while, we took the bus up to Grouse Mountain and took the cable car up as the path was closed due to bad weather. Couldn't really see much as it was too misty and rainy, so we walked around and then went for something to eat and drink of course before heading back down where we walked from Grouse Mountain back down to the bridge checking out a dam on the way. That night went to movies with Melanie to see Robin Hood. Next day was my birthday, thankfully it was a quiet one. Checked out all my facebook things as you do before we went and hired some mountain bikes and went for a bikeride around Stanley Park which was fantastic. Checked out the Totem Poles, the bay and other places round there. That night we went to a little restaurant in Bowen Island with Melanie. We took the ferry across and had some really spectacular pizza and some dessert which came complete with candle to my embarrasment and a restaurant full of singing people. We got talking to some really nice people sitting next to us and they were amazingly kind enough to give us a lift in their boat back to Horseshoe complete with blankets and more wine Yay. Overall a nice quiet birthday which suited me fine. Next day Annika went back and met up with Melanie again and that night went to see Xavier Rudd in concert in Stanley Park which was cool. The next day was all about getting ready for the next tour trip around the Rockies!!!
