Hi All,
We've spent the last week in (cold) Sydney!! We arrived last Tuesday and have been staying with Sarah and Susan, it was so nice to have a real bed to sleep in rather than a camper van!!
We had a few problems getting into Sydney, its a lot like London and getting through the centre with not a very detailed map was not the easiest of feats. We ended up crossing the harbour bridge 3 times - but the view was nice!! haha
On our first day we did a bit of sightseeing - we went to Circular Quay which is where both the Opera House and Harbour Bridge are. The Opera House wasn't as amazing as we'd imagined - it was more a yellow than white but we took some pictures and had a wander round. We then decided to take a boat trip around the harbour - some nutty guy sold it to us for quite cheap and we thought we had a good deal. That is until we turned up to be told there wasn't actually enough people for the trip to run - bit annoying seeing as we'd spent the afternoon waiting to go!! He did make us laugh with his ridiculous Little Britain impressions though!!
During the rest of the week we visited Sydneys beaches - both Bondi & Manly. The weather proved to be a disaster both times so no sunbathing for us! Had to make do with a few drinks in the bars nearby and caught up with my friend Robbie in Bondi which was fun!
On the weekend Sarah decided to show us the nightlife of Sydney - Saturday night we had a bottle of vodka before leaving the flat then off we trotted to Kings Cross. This happens to be a similar sort of place to Londons Kings Cross and there were numerous ladies wandering around offering their services!! Unfortunately we couldn't get into any bars there are, we were politely told there was a dress code!! (Flip flops and shorts a def no go for a night out!) Not to be disheartened we went in searh of somewhere a little downmarket - the local backpackers hostel. After queueing in the freezing cold (yes it is meant to be summer!!) for half hour we were nearly in when the bouncer popped up with 'Got any ID??' Nope we did not!! Being as it was now nearly 2am we decided to call it a night! Thoroughly good night was had by all though as not one of us could remember how we got home the next morning!! When we eventually get round to putting the piccies on the site you can see the effects of the bottle of vodka!!
Other than getting drunk and wet in the rain - we didn't do much else in Sydney. We did however get free tickets to see Borat (cheers for that Susan) it is a VERY funny film and def worth watching if you get the chance.
Thanks so much to Sarah and Susan for having us for the week - and for introducing us to the many culinery delights Sydney has to offer. Namely Banana Bread and Tum Tams!!
We are off to Fiji tomorrow - we have heard there is some sort of Coup going on but we're used to that after Thailand!!! Wish us luck
Lou & Dave
