Our day started taking the bus to the airport but a few hours later we were driving our very own white convertible Mustang, which after trying to figure out how to put the roof down we would be driving all the way to the Grand Canyon!
An hour in we decided to stop off at the Hoover Dam. It was an impressive piece of engineering, although it was surprising to see how low their water levels were as the colour of the rock showed how high they should be.
Another four hours on the straight, long desert roads and we were finally at the Grand Canyon just in time to watch the sunset over the canyon. The Grand Canyon is not like anything we've seen before and is absolutely breathtaking.
We are staying in a lovely little lodge right on the canyon rim and it was eerie at night to see the canyon in complete darkness.
Although we were only staying here for one night the next morning we made the most of our time and caught the shuttle bus that took us to numerous lookout points around the South rim of the canyon. The views were even more amazing here and we were able to see for miles. We even got a chance to see some local wildlife and met a strange little desert squirrel that was very tame and would come right up to you, hoping for food. It was very entertaining seeing it roll around in the dirt and hop around on its hind legs. Unfortunately though we eventually had to start the five hour journey back to Las Vegas but we are so glad we got to see the Grand Canyon and Richard was very happy he got to drive a convertible Mustang!
