It was a few years ago now that I went to Barcelona so it's probably changed quite a bit since then, but before what few memories I have left of this place leave my brain I wanted to record as much as I can remember!
I was only there for a few days and the hotel we stayed in was miles away from anywhere which was a bit annoying so time was limited around when we could bus in and out of the city. The first thing I think we came across was the arc de triomf followed by a long promenade framed by palm trees, it was really quite pretty in the sunshine. That day we walked for miles not really knowing what was there, I remember passing a nice little boating lake and park area where we chilled out with ice creams for a bit.
I think we went to la sagrada familia next, what a beautiful building!! The detail in the carvings which cover most of the building is incredible! Each carving was individual and detailed. The building was never finished and so is still under construction, which is a shame because the huge machines and scaffolding around it spoiled the picturesque view a bit. We went inside it and work was being done there too, but there were still some beautiful stained glass windows and funky shapes within the spires. We went right up to the top too which was packed with people pushing and shoving to get their photos on the walkways between the spires. It was good to see the tops of them up close and the view across some of barcelona!
We walked around many streets just looking at the architecture, lots of narrow streets and we did see some strange graffiti that looked kinda evil! We followed a tour group for a while to see if they would take us anywhere interesting, the buildings we saw were pretty but the guide was spanish so we had no idea what he was saying, plus we hung back a bit as we weren't actually on the tour! We walked along the ramblas, somehow stumbled upon the port a little later and sat watching a guy fishing with a loaf of bread for a while, whilst eating ice cream again!
By accident we came to the olympic stadium which was lucky! We didn't go in the actual stadium but walked and chilled out in the gardens, we were the only people there for ages which was strange but cool, and there was a great view of the city from there too! I'd been to the nou camp football stadium when I was in school - not interested in football so wasn't really fussed about seeing it again, I remember it was huge?!
One evening we had a very expensive meal which wasn't actually that nice and we'd underestimated their portion sizes too because we couldn't eat half of it! Walking around the streets at night there were lots of cool lights on the buildings and the streets were bustling as much as they had been during the day!
It's a nice city - wish I could remember more of it!
