Well this has actually taken a bit longer than expected to start my travel blog but better late than never!
It all started in London where I met my contiki crew and all the other random people I was about to spend the next 18 days of my life with. We were to meet again early the next morning to hop on the bus and make our way across the channel to france and further onto the Netherlands to the capital Amsterdam!
We finally arrived early afternoon (27th August 2009) and my feeling was that Amsterdam is a fun, exciting city and definitley an eye opener! we headed to our hostel where we dropped off our bags and met our rooms mates for the next couple of nights (as an Aussie, I was fortunate enough to be stuck with 3 Kiwi's lol) it was then time to hit the town! Redlights district was awake and lively and full of 51 random tourists from a contiki bus ready to PARTY! We visited a few places knocking back some cold drinks and getting to know each other a little more before heading back to the hostel for some sleep and an early start in the morning!
The next day consisted of a drive to a town called Edam were we hopped on bikes and took a stroll around the town (this was one of my highlights - I was genuenly in aw of how free and amazing it was - No effects from the night before of course)! We then saw how clogs were made and tried some on for size! And then there was CHEESE mmmmm yum!
We then headed back to the city and were given some free time to explore on our own, though we stayed in groups as we all wanted to see the same things. We were restricted for time so only managed to fit a few things in (this didn't bother me though as I reckon we seen the best things we could have seen in such short time) We started with the Anne Frank Museum which I honestly didn't know much about the Anne Frank story, I found it touching yet sad in a way. We then stopped to get some food and decide what we would do next! A few of us ended up deciding to hit the Heineken Brewery which I am glad we did as this turned out to be a load of fun with free beer at the end! Definitley recommend to anyone interested in BEER!
As this was our last night in this amazing, bright and fun city we had to head out for a drink and random dancing! lol and I will definitley be back!!!
