Today was an absolutely thrilling day! We left early from Coles Bay and headed up the coast to Bicheno - a very cool town with a lot going on. After a great breakfast, we hit up the tourist info station to make our plan for the day.
My plan was to do some more scuba diving while in Tassie, but apparently I'm not destined to do it. We tried for hours to catch the people at the dive centre but they were never there. They must've been out on the boat all morning. We did get to do a fun little hike up to a lookout very close to downtown. The views were awesome over the town and Waubs Bay and all only a few minutes hike from the downtown!
Since we couldn't catch the people at the dive centre, we gave up and headed on up the coast. Along the way we stopped to pick up a hitchhiker. We saw him earlier and he looked pretty friendly so we figured we'd survive. He was a great dude - a 19 year old from Rhode Island. We didn't take him too far before our paths split again, but it was a great experience and my first in the world of hitchhiking. Great way to make a new friend!
The next town we visited was St Helens. Here I tried again to connect with a diving opportunity, but both the dive masters around here happened to be out of town for the weekend, so apparently I'm out of luck.
Instead, we headed in to Binalong Bay to spend a couple hours at the beach. Obviously, since it was a nice afternoon, I decided to go for a swim. The water was pristine and I got some awesome shots on my GoPro as it was so clear (see photos).
We had heard that Cozy Corner was a nice place to camp so we decided to post up there for the night. But first, we made a run back to St Helens to hit the bottle shop and grab some beers/ciders for the evening.
After heading back to the camp ground, we were pleasantly surprised by the proximity to another unreal beach! This beach is in the Bay of Fires and has lots of big rocks to climb and chill on while you take in the sun, sounds of the water, or awesome views of the stars at night. We spent lots of time here both before and after dinner, enjoying the awesome opportunities afforded by such a cool camping spot.
Tonight we're packing it in early, hoping to cover lots of ground tomorrow and see all the fun things the rest of the way up the coast.
Stay weird, keep beachin', and try something new - like picking up a hitchhiker. It might be pleasantly surprising.
