Well, I fled a flooded apartment in Toronto (literally) for the airport and landed happily on zero sleep in Cancun. After a quick bus ride to Playa Del Carmen, the vacation was off to a start!
Playa is an interesting place to visit right now. What would normally be a beach bursting with people is actually being flooded with gross seaweed from the ocean. Normally blue water is a gross black and smells pretty organic. So rather that hitting the beach, we had lots of fun inland instead.
Day one was for snorkelling. We visited Cenote Azul and then Cenote Cristalino. Both were awesome. Both had wicked cliffs to jump off of and super clear waters. Cristalino had multiple pools and an awesome cave. Overall such a great day.
Day two I went diving at Cenote Tajme-ha. It was some awesome cavern routes and then sun even came out in time to get some wicked light streams. While I was there, Lucas snorkeled at Eden, which was also spectacular.
Day three we booked a tour of Rio Secreto. The awesomeness of these caves are legitimately hard to describe, so I will just say google it. It’s amazing.
We spent our evenings drinking Tecate Lights and eating cheap tacos. The best restaurant (recommended by several peeps) was El Fogon and our nightclub of choice was Club 69 (naturally). We also spend lots of time exploring shops on 5th Ave and just hanging out.
Great first stop on the summer vacay of 2018!
