Sunny Sunny Days! by Kyle
Well, we have been here in England for a few days now and the first thing that stands out is the weather! It has been sunny almost everyday since weve been here, and the temperature has been much like what spring would be at home. Everyone here keeps saying that we must be good luck, since we brought this great weather. And to think, we got off the plane just hoping it wouldnt rain everyday (me especially since I lost my jacket in the airport. Yes I know mom, no lecture needed lol).
Weve been in Marple, just outside Manchester, staying with Steve since Friday. Steve has been an amazing host, as was Double D before him. Just wanted to give a quick thanks to Phil for setting us up with some great blokes, as you English would say. Both have been more than welcoming and helpful, we are more than appreciative of their help. Hopefully we can pay back their kindness in some way in the future.
Steve took us out for Italian on Friday and then the pub right after. I think both Luke and I had some pretty serious headaches Saturday morning. Both Steve and Dennis have been amazing us with some of their travel stories, as they have both been to many extraordinary places.
Although we just walked around Marple on Saturday, we got to see our first excellect British castle on Sunday. Steve took us to Warwick Castle, south of Birmingham, and it was an amazing place. The price was a little steep (£18 pounds in off season!) but it was worth it. Warwick had a lot of history, and some amazing views as well.
There were tourists from all over the place there, many Americans and even a group of Spanish children. We were going through one area and one of the Castle workers heard our accents and asked us if we were from Canada or America. We said Canada, so she asked us to say something. She said "Can you say: O-u-t-a-n-d-a-b-o-u-t for me?" (She literally spelled it out like that). So I said "Out and aboot," which got a good laugh from her. Sara (Steves daughter) was even funnier though, as she pointed out sarcastically that the lady was "a typical Englishwoman" lol.
So it is now Monday morning here in England and weve been trying to finish off our plans for our month backpacking. Weve taken Kristy's advice and we have booked a flight to Ireland for St. Patricks Day, but it was very difficult to find accomodation since I think all the other Canadians were thinking the same thing lol (were typical Canadians). So we will be spending 5 days in Ireland now, along with the month in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
I will be signing off now, were headed to Manchester today to see Old Trafford (Manchester United's stadium for those who are football, or should I say soccer illiterate at home). We are also hopefully headed to Liverpool tomorrow or Wednesday to see the city and do the Beatles Walk!
Only three days til Spain for us and then the adventure really takes off. So please keep the msgs coming and we'll keep the pictures flowing. Don't hurt your backs with the snow over there lol (sorry couldn't resist, Im soooo getting jinxed in Spain cause of that), and hopefully we'll talk to y'all very soon!
Bye from England,
Kyle
