Dresden
The place we stayed last night served the most amazing breakfast that included scrambled eggs and sausages. They even had real juice instead of the watery cordial we've been given elsewhere...not that I'm complaining.
We travelled along the motorway at 140km/hr, Andrew says he's not going to like going home and having to stick to 100. I must admit it is very unnerving driving at that speed.
Shooting through the west of Poland we soon crossed the boarder into Germany and programmed Nelly for Saxon Switzerland. We knew we'd found it when the road became surrounded by forest and rocks jotted up out of the ground. I've never seen anything quite like it. We found a car park and pulled in, a boom gate closing behind us. We then went in search of an ATM. unfortunately the town was flooded not too long ago and ATMs and the automated tourist information was yet to be repaired so we found ourselves trapped in a car park that cost 1€ to get out and with toilets that cost 50euro cents to use....none of which we had.
I must admit though, we saw some sights in the brief time we were there....people playing in fountains, crowds of people flocking for the bush walks despite the oppressive heat, even 4 people riding their bikes nude through town (2 women and 2 men). I'm just glad we were headed in the same direction as they were. But seriously, that could not have been comfortable!!!
A very kind gentleman let us out of the car park with out the € and we made a beeline for Dresden....another story altogether.
This evening we had a lovely time catching up with Lena and her boyfriend, one of mum and dads home stay girls from 2007. We enjoyed a German BBQ and then walked to the river to see the town all lit up.
We are home now, close to midnight and weary. We are leaving early to head back to Saxon Switzerland to explore while its still cool enough to do so. Then it's off to Berlin.
