With a 6.30am start, we were pretty knackered, but got to laugh at those just coming home from last nights antics. Picked up by minivan and taken to the boat, where we started the first of many 'organised chaos' boats. The boat journey easy enough, with free tea&coffee and banana muffins, thank goodness as we hadn't had breakfast. When we arrived to pier at Phi Phi, of course we were overwhelmed by the beauty, clear water, cliffs, greenery, all so beautiful. But trying to get our bags off the boat was a disaster and the amount of people on the pier was crazy. We could hardly get through them. There was also a 20baht charge pp: a 'keep island clean' fee. After battling through the taxi men and people offering hotels, we were able to walk 5mins to ours, the Maiyada PP resort. We arrived at 11am, and luckily they let us check in early with no hassle. We were given a brand new room with sea view so we very impressed (still plastic on light switches) with the only downside being there was no safe. I had heard PP is renound for thief so we just locked stuff in backpack and hoped for the best. It was a nice room, clean, big bed, fridge, balcony; we very happy because we paid a lot to stay there, being around new year and on one of the most popular islands. We headed out into the crowds and found a bakery for lunch, melted cheese sandwich, amazing. Sometimes all you want is something that tastes like home. Then our boat trip was at 2pm; the original PP sunset boat. The stops included
Monkey beach, maya bay, snorkelling (where nearly everyone who got in the water got stung by jellyfish, Kenny included) and somewhere else CHECK, then sunset. It was a complete washout. I couldn't believe how bad the weather turned as soon as we left the pier. It was so rough, apart from Maya bay 'The Beach', which was lovely but quite cold. Got a few nice pictures so that'll keep me happy. We met some lovely people; Lily, Jack, Josephine and Shaun. Off the boat, where Kenny had spent most of the time in he bathroom, and back to hotel to shower and nap. We were meant to meet up with our new friends but Kenny had the s***s and my tummy felt dodgy so just had chips and garlic bread for dinner. We tried to look for the bar we were supposed to meet in but couldn't find it.
Kenny now wants a bamboo tattoo so spent the evening looking at them then headed back.
The next day, we had a nice wee lie in (this travelling is hard work sometimes), then had the buffet breakfast which was just ok. Today we figured out where our seaview was; and walked along the adjacent beach. Then shared a pad thai (most common thai dish made with noodles, and veg, can add meat, with some nuts added and a spritz of lime) at Kuhn Va restaurant, cheap and good. Tried to contact our friends for the hike but couldn't reach them; they'd gone gone for a crazy one the night before, and got tattoos at 3 in the morning. When in Thailand...
We went for a walk around the island, picking up a dry bag along the way (really will come in handy with all these water activities) then to PP viewpoint. The trek up took longer than we thought, 40-45mins but we saw cute butterfly's along the way and met Sandra from Switerzland. She continued the walk with us. Just before the top, we had to pay 20baht pp but it really was worth it for such beautiful views. There was a crazy little man at the top who had red teeth, couldn't figure out whether it was blood or what. Turns out it was berries from possibly a coconut tree, to get him stoned. Just looked a bit strange. It was nice to see the island from here, now we understood the orientation and could really see how easy it would have been to wipe it out in the tsnami, which just had its 10 year anniversary the other day. Very sad. They way back down was definitely easier than up, we went down the steps this time, we def choose the right route. Kenny also decided to trip me so nearly wreck my two toes and had to limp half was back. Just lucky he didn't have to carry me lol. Later on we met Jo and Shaun for drinks at Carlitos, then dinner in kuhn va again, bumped into Sandra along the way so she joined us, then had called it a night.
Next day was a beach day. Well Kenny tried to turn it into a tattoo day but he's very indecisive these days. The water on the beach near our hotel is so shallow for so long; walked out 100m and it didn't even teach my knees. The boat @ 3pm took us to Koh Lanta for 250baht each, and in phuket they were gona charge us 450baht for this trip. Pays to wait sometimes :)
